You may be contacting me about yourself, your relationship or on behalf of someone younger in your
family
.
It is not easy to find a counsellor and I am happy to think with you if I could be the right one. We could think of what it is that you actually need. Do you feel isolated and somehow disconnected from others? Do you feel like you've tried everything to feel better but you still feel stuck in a cycle that you don't know how to break free from? I can help you to look at things from different perspective. I can help you to improve your relationship with others. I can help you to not feel alone with it and maybe for the first time feel that you're actually listened to. I'd love to meet you. :)

Initially Relate trained I offer couples work, separation counselling and
family
relationships.
Counselling helps you to explore and understand the issues that are making life difficult for you. In our first session I would ask you to tell me what you are finding difficult, I would also answer your questions about counselling and tell you more about what is involved. Most important is that you feel comfortable talking with me. I will not tell you what to do, but I will help you to explore what you want to do. I will have knowledge which may help you e.g if you are grieving any loss I can help you understand the stages if grief. I provide a warm, non-judgemental space where you can talk, be heard and feel safe.

My name is Sam, I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I understand how difficult the decision to seek counselling can be through my own experience. You may feel unsure whether it's the right move for your child and how long they can continue to cope on their own. So many questions you may have, you may feel you and your child are a burden to
family
and friends and don't know who to turn to. Worried about returning to school/college or starting a new one, impacts of Covid, social isolation,
family
issues and relationships causing anxieties and stress which may affect day to day life, I can help.

Life can be tough at times. Whether it's issues at work, with
family
and relationships, illness, loss, abuse, sexuality, phobias, anxiety, addiction or just general confidence, we all need help from time to time. For years I thought that the best way to deal with the feelings brought about by life's challenges was to 'bottle them up' and not talk about them, hoping they would go away. The reality was that this led to issues with anxiety, low mood and in extreme cases, panic attacks. Sound familiar? Just as it did for me, counselling could help you unlock the root cause of your issues and deal with them once and for all.

As an LGBTQIA+ and BAME community member, I comprehend the struggles and issues of being different, which can affect you, your life, and even your
family
.
Have you faced judgement for simply being yourself? Has your sexuality, identity, gender, and life choices been disapproved of? It's challenging to live with constant questioning from
family
, friends, or others. We may even begin to question ourselves, wondering if we're "normal," if we're making the right choices, or if we'll ever be accepted. These thoughts can make it difficult to be confident in who we are and to find happiness. My role here is not to aim to fix things or help you feel "normal". Instead, I strive to work alongside you to discover a path that is uniquely yours, empowering you to be yourself and find happiness.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
