Hi, I'm Abi, welcome. I appreciate it can be challenging to know where to start, and which counsellor to approach. I work in a warm, down to earth and non-judgemental way. I'm an experienced Humanistic counsellor, we work together to explore what has brought you to counselling. You're the expert on your own experiences, I take your lead and we work at your pace. It’s completely normal to feel uncertain at the start, please ask as many questions as you need. We can work together to bring a greater sense of understanding, clarity and calm. I work in person, online and also walking therapy outdoors.

I specialise in working therapeutically with eating disorders, baby loss, miscarriage and rainbow babies.
Do others view you as a calm river with a constant, steady flow? Does this stop you from telling them about the disarming undercurrent that pulls you in all directions? Perhaps you feel like you need to maintain the outward appearance of being someone who ‘has it all’ when inwardly you are scared that you aren’t enough. Appearing perfect can be exhausting, it can also be isolating and erode our true sense of self. I am here so that you can rest your mask down for a while. By tapping into and meeting the needs of your inner self you will find that you feel resourced enough to fortify your relationships with others.

My area of special interest is women's health, from menarche to menopause and in particular perinatal mental health.
I use a model of therapy which has a clear and effective set of organised ideas that is brief and solution focussed. Human Givens therapy encompasses all effective approaches to helping people. It is truly holistic, scientific and practical. The sessions are not designed to be multiple or long term. The intention is to work with the client to achieve the outcome they want in as short a time-frame as possible – and therefore they can move on, fully equipped for the next chapter.

As well as working across the life span with mood and trauma based difficulties I have three specialist mental health areas that I work in: perinatal, physical health and child and adolescent.
Living (or parenting a child) with the effects of trauma and other mental health difficulties can feel impossible. Unfortunately, finding help can be a daunting process with so many solutions being offered and not all of them being evidence based. The next best step is often to get in touch for a free 15 minute consultation to find out if I feel like the right fit for you or your child.

I work with individuals and couples ( multi-partner relationships) and specialise in those experiencing anxiety, ADHD, and relationship challenges. Most of us can go through times in life when something doesn’t feel quite right, or when we have a sense of being “stuck.” This may show up as anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, low mood, or difficulties in relationships. You might also notice feeling emotionally numb, being self-critical, struggling with decision making, or experiencing recurring conflict. Either way, we can explore this together at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Hello, are you feeling low? experiencing anxiety? dealing with a loss or bereavement? Maybe you are struggling with emotional issues from the past that are intruding in your current life? At times we can find life difficult and struggle to make sense of it. Overcoming our problems on our own or talking with people we are closest to can be hard so speaking confidentially to a counsellor may be what you are looking for. Talking helps you to explore your thoughts and feelings so you can get a clearer view of your life. I will listen without judgement to how it feels to be you so you can discover what really matters to you.

Please see my website for more details. I also specialise in parenting. I am also passionate about working with parents as I know how challenging and under-supported parenting is! Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
