I work with people who are struggling with sadness, worry, anxiety and relationship difficulties.
Life can feel overwhelming for all sorts of reasons from big life events to things you are facing in your day-to-day. I believe one of the most valuable things about therapy is not having to go through it alone. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 10 years’ experience of working therapeutically with people from all walks of life in the NHS, the community and charitable settings. I tailor our sessions to meet your needs by draw on a range of evidence based models including CBT, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), EMDR, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and Psychodynamic approaches.

Hi, my name is Danielle Bennett, I'm an individual counsellor, a couple counsellor and sex therapist.
When I first studied relationships, I could not understand that if sex was supposed to be natural and easy why so many couples and individuals had problems. Over time, I've learnt that the complications and life are the elements that make a relationship strain; almost break and sometimes come back together. It's all about balance!

I am a fully qualified and accredited integrative therapist, experienced in working with both couples and individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
In my work with couples, I often see partners who have slipped into unhelpful habits and want support in rebuilding a healthy, thriving relationship. Many couples wait until things feel close to breaking point before seeking help, which can place enormous strain on the partnership. Having someone offer perspective and facilitate a reset can be powerful.

Having been in practice for over thirty years, I know that no one REALLY wants to come and see me. I can seem like a last resort. I'm the person you come to when no-one else will do ……and, you have to pay me! You have to talk to someone! Someone who, you are hoping and trusting will understand the gravity of your situation and take you and your experience of life seriously.. So... conversational therapy is what I do; it is my job; what I do for a living; have conversations with people, be with them, helping them through fearful times of doubt, uncertainty and despair. Like walking a tightrope, it’s a risky business!

As a counsellor I have worked with many types of abuse, trauma and relationship issues.
Life can be complex and often overwhelming, leaving us at times feeling isolated and alone even when we are surrounded by people. As such there might be many different reasons why people come into counselling. Sometimes the issues we experience have clear causes and explanations and at other times it might feel less obvious and harder therefore to identify. What I would hope to offer you is a place that feels safe, supportive and confidential where you are able to explore whatever it is for you personally that you want to address without fear of judgement and criticism.

People come to therapy when they’re stuck. Whatever the issue, they also bring their feelings, including one of the most fundamental feelings of all: discouragement. When courage takes a hit, we question who we are, whether we have what it takes, and whether we are enough. To face the challenges that confront us when we're living our lives, we need to have courage - and full access to our courageousness - so that we can face whatever comes, connect with people and feel a sense of belonging, notice our strengths and whether we overuse or underuse them, and feel like we make a difference in some way, in the world.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
