We all pass through stages in our life where we question everything around us, our relationships, our work, our behaviour and ultimately ourselves.
Therapy allows us to hold these questions up to the light and do our best to answer them. Therapy can be difficult and challenging and sometimes you have to look deep inside yourself in order to find the answer. At Level Counselling I provide a safe and welcoming space within which you can explore yourself and the things that trouble you.

I work with adults, couples and teenagers over the age of 16 across a range of issues.
A big part of my work is with adults who have suffered adverse childhood experiences or childhood emotional neglect. If this is you and you feel that you are struggling to cope because you are still carrying around the childhood adaptations you used to protect yourself, traits such as people pleasing, being afraid to try, afraid to use your voice, perfectionism traits, not being able to take criticism to name but a few. I have seen people turn their lives around when they have addressed these issues so if this speaks to you please contact me for a consultation. Don't let your past ruin your future it doesn't have to be this way.

I am a registered therapist with the BACP, with over 10 years’ experience supporting people through a range of mental health and relationship difficulties, including experiences of abuse and domestic abuse.
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different ways of working, including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, systemic and existential therapy. In practice, this means I adapt to you as an individual, rather than expecting you to fit a particular model or way of thinking.

interpersonal relationship difficulties
I understand that when looking for some sort of therapy, to relieve difficult feelings and symptoms, the choice can feel overwhelming. You may wonder how you can know what would be most helpful. Two things are crucial. The first is that you find someone you can feel comfortable enough with to be open and trust to be alongside you and guide you. Secondly that that they can enable you to articulate your struggles, understand something of their origin and together explore underlying issues and barriers to positive change. If you want to explore if you and I would be a good fit, contact me for a free 15minute consultation.

Anxiety, low self esteem and not feeling good in relationships for example.
Working with children and young people and my training in Trauma has given me an understanding of how we develop and learn ways to cope and adapt to difficult experiences. Often these methods cause difficulties in our relationships and our sense of who we are in this world in the present. We can look at these problems together to find new ways forwards.

Hi, I’m Ash, a Clinical Psychologist and trainee EMDR therapist with experience supporting people through trauma, anxiety, shame, psychosis, addiction, and relationship difficulties.
I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, I work collaboratively with you to find an approach that feels supportive, meaningful, and accessible.

I walk alongside my clients metaphorically and literally, offering the opportunity to walk in nature to harness the healing power of the outdoors as well as the therapeutic power of the unique relationship which forms between client and therapist.
The aim of counselling is to promote healing and assist clients to take the next steps forward in their lives. Whether the issues stem from unresolved historic life events, acute trauma such as bereavement, separation or abuse or general depression and anxiety. Counselling can help a client to find their way when feeling lost, with the support of a reliable, benevolent and empathic person by their side who can gently challenge, encourage exploration and hold the client through their journey.

Yet for me every new client (or clients if you are a couple) marks the beginning of a new journey, a chance to experience the world from yet another perspective.
I offer you a safe place to explore your emotions and the issues that trouble you and will work with you to find solutions which will improve your life. Therapy with me is about preparing to make changes. I will help you release the thoughts that trouble you, your fears and despair and help you contain those most intense feelings so we can look deeper into the reasons why you are not functioning as you would like to. We can't always change the way those around us behave, but we can change our attitude to life and to others.

Relational psychodynamic therapy is a talking therapy that is collaborative and invites you to be curious. Together we think about how your past relationships and early experiences may be shaping the way you feel, relate, cope and see yourself. We pay attention to not only what you think consciously but also to unconscious patterns and attachment processes

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
