Hello and welcome - I am an experienced, BACP registered person-centred therapist offering counselling in-person or via secure video call. I have extensive experience supporting adults and young people across NHS, educational, and hospice settings, experiencing anxiety, trauma, OCD, bereavement and depression. Sometimes, past experiences or upcoming challenges can feel overwhelming, leaving us feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, low mood, and emotional difficulties that may prevent us from living the life we truly want.

People often come to me when life feels overwhelming, stuck, or harder to manage. You might be feeling anxious, exhausted, low, tearful, on edge, numb, or in emotional or physical pain, or just coping day to day. Perhaps you’re overthinking, not sleeping well, burnt out, grieving, or noticing repeated patterns in relationships, work, or life changes. I offer a calm, confidential space either in person just outside Bowness-on-Windermere, within 5 miles, in a peaceful Lake District countryside setting or online.

As a therapist with experience and training in autism, ADHD, and learning disability, I offer a neuro-affirming space that respects difference and supports a positive identity.
My name is Vikki and I'm a person-centred therapist from Garstang offering face to face and online counselling sessions. Often the people I work with feel stuck or overwhelmed, perhaps facing anxiety, self-doubt, trauma, difficult life transitions or distress from challenging relationships. You might be seeking clarity, emotional balance, or a stronger sense of self. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can explore what matters to you, gently untangle what's holding you back, and move towards greater self-trust and authenticity. Together, we build a relationship that supports your growth, autonomy, and emotional wellbeing.

I offer a confidential, relational, safe space, practicing trauma informed, compassion focused Art Therapy. Sessions centre around your individual wellbeing and personal goals considering your social emotional and mental health needs. Art Therapy does not require artistic skill and whilst it can offer a non threatening, non verbal approach it can equally be a verbal experience. The process offers art materials as a means of creative expression, sensory experience and reflection. Its is a mind body approach to self awareness and therapeutic intervention.

I work with young people, adults, and families who struggle with feelings of anxiety, stress, low self esteem and low mood, worthlessness, and self-doubt. Perhaps you are an obsessive overthinker, struggling with OCD, or set excessively high standards/feel exhausted, and or are self-critical. We can work on techniques to relearn a more helpful and constructive view. How you talk to yourself matters. If your voice is unkind, it undermines your self-worth. What is important when dealing with stress or self criticism is to reframe our mindset towards it, but more crucial, to recover from it so that we don’t linger in this state.

Hello, if you're looking for a creative way to explore your concerns, in Art Therapy you will have the opportunity to use art-making as a means of communication and self expression. I offer a safe, confidential, person-centred creative space and a rich variety of 2D and 3D art and craft materials for drawing, painting, crafting and clay modelling. Your art-making process and image can then provide the focus for reflection and discussion. No experience in art is necessary and although the emphasis will be on your art-making, it is your choice of how much talking you wish there to be in your session.

Education and Learning Disabilities Counsellors
How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
