You’re holding it all together. And you’re exhausted. On paper your life looks successful. You’re capable, responsible and the one everyone relies on. But inside you feel overwhelmed, anxious and stretched too thin. Your brain never really switches off. You lie awake at night overthinking conversations or replaying the day. There never seem to be enough hours. You’re juggling work, home and everyone else’s needs while quietly running on empty, wondering why everything feels harder than it should. You can’t keep going like this.

Clients come to CBT often with what seems like a complex web of problems which can’t be unravelled or resolved, however they can. Clients often feel they are going round in circles or that their lives are out of control. CBT is useful for a range of issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD and phobias. Clients often need to understand why they think and feel like they do, they want practical help so they can feel better about themselves or what they have been through. Being an active therapy means clients see visible improvements each week, with practice and encouragement clients are able to resume some control over their lives.

Many clients come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed by anxiety, navigating a late ADHD diagnosis, or processing the impact of a significant life event. Often, we find ourselves repeating patterns we don’t fully understand, outwardly competent, high performing, even exceptional, yet internally disconnected from a sense of satisfaction or happiness.
As a CBT psychotherapist, I combine evidence-based approaches with genuine curiosity and compassion. I offer a safe, supportive space where we can gently explore your experiences, make sense of what’s happened, and work collaboratively to create meaningful lifelong change.

Choosing a therapist can be a stressful process, and it's difficult to decide which kind of therapy to try. Many people find it helpful to work with a therapist who has trained in more than one therapy, who can switch to a different therapy when needed, and who can tailor sessions according to your needs. My 16 years experience in supporting neurodivergent clients (with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other difficulties) led me to further training in 2021 in autism, and specialised CBT and ACT for ADHD and emotional regulation problems.

One thing I always say to my clients is that my ultimate goal is to 'make you your own therapist so you don't need me anymore'. I believe my role is to help you: Understand the problem and what is keeping it going. Identify goals for yourself both short term and long term to help give you focus. Learn strategies and techniques that can help you cope better, overcome and make positive changes. Be able to maintain your progress after therapy and reduce the chances or impacts of setbacks in the future. Become more resilient, understanding of good mental heath awareness which could have a positive impact on your relationships.

My aim is to help explore the difficulties that individuals and families are wanting support with and then be honest and transparent in the ways in which I am able to help. I am able to offer individual sessions, family sessions and a mix of both when required. I recognise that engaging with someone new can be daunting for young people and their families and therefore initially I prioritise helping people to feel comfortable to share their problems. I am able to assess and contribute towards assessment for Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) alongside a multidiscplinary team.

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviours that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioural therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioural change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
