Bereavement Counselling in Lancaster
Relationship difficulties, grief, relational trauma and overwhelming life experiences can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others.
The ways we cope, relate and protect ourselves often develop through experiences where we may not have felt fully safe, seen or understood. Therapy can offer a different kind of relational space, one where you can explore your experiences gently, at your own pace, and begin reconnecting with yourself in ways that feel more grounded and authentic.
Together, we can begin to make sense of patterns in how you experience yourself in relationship with others that may leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or alone. I offer a warm, reflective and emotionally attuned space where you can feel heard with care and without judgement.

Are you tired of just surviving? Giving everything you've got just to get through another day? Do you feel lost, alone and in pain, with no idea who you actually are or what you need or want? Perhaps too many years of perfectionism, people-pleasing and masking have taken their toll, and now you're ready to heal and discover who you really are underneath it all. Through Phoenixology therapy with Dr Naomi Parsons you'll find someone to walk the path alongside you, someone who's travelled the route themselves and knows that the view from the top is 1000% worth it. Sessions are always bespoke, filled with empathy, warmth and compassion.

Something in your life may feel heavier, more unsettled, or harder to manage than it once was. You may have been coping on your own for a long time, but have reached a point where that now feels impossible. In our sessions, I bring a calm, warm, steadying presence as you begin to make sense of your experiences and find a way forward that feels more manageable and true to you. You don’t need the right words or a crystal clear understanding of what’s going on in order to come to therapy, we can start wherever you are, move at a pace that feels right for you, and gently explore what feels most present and important for you right now.

I work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds who are navigating difficult life experiences, pregnancy and motherhood, parenting pressures, separation, grief, anxiety, depression, identity questions, or the quiet struggles of trying to "fit in" while staying true to oneself.
Maybe you're trying to hold everything together while feeling disconnected from yourself. Perhaps you’ve spent so long taking care of others that you’ve lost sight of your own needs. You may be struggling with low self-esteem, people-pleasing, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You're not alone, and don’t have to figure it out alone.
My approach is culturally sensitive. I create a space where you can speak freely without judgment or the need to explain your background. I also integrate tools from CBT, compassion-focused therapy, and trauma-informed care to support your goals at your pace.

A bereavement?
Talking to a therapist, noticing your emotions and your physical aches and pains as well as your spoken story - paying attention to what we have been avoiding or unable to get space to look at - can open up a whole new world. I work holistically with trauma including working with the body, breath, emotions and story telling.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
