Couples work often range from 12 to 24 sessions, again weekly.
Life and relationships can sometimes have us feel like we are being tossed around in a stormy sea. How to cope, wondering who I am or why does this keep happening to me can often be questions we ask ourselves. Sometimes it’s not appropriate or possible to talk with those close to you, and so having someone like a counsellor may be of help at this time. You may not know why you feel this way, and that’s ok too, we can work this out together. My own personal journey, I feel, has provided me the compassion and understanding of what it can be like when faced with times of despair, seemingly impossible situations, and self-doubt.

I have over 15 years' experience supporting adults, teens and couples during times of crisis.
Beginning counselling can feel like a significant and meaningful step. I offer a safe, supportive space where we can explore your present experiences alongside past events that may still be shaping how you feel and relate to others. Together, we gently work through what may have been held inside—sometimes outside of awareness, yet still affecting your emotional and physical wellbeing. My aim is to support you in gaining clarity, understanding, and a deeper sense of connection within yourself. I tailor my approach to your individual needs, drawing on ongoing professional training to support you in developing ways to navigate moments

In a safe, supportive environment we will work together to make positive and lasting changes. Therapy gives you the time and space to explore your thoughts, emotions and choices without judgement. We will think about what has brought you to therapy, exploring how your past experiences, relationships and unconscious thoughts are shaping the way that you feel today. By bringing these unconscious influences into awareness we can start to recognise and change unhelpful patterns, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, providing the opportunity to then move forwards with a greater sense of self and personal agency.

Being disconnected from your partner erodes your wellbeing, while being reluctantly single can leave you frustrated and disillusioned.
No question or topic is too outrageous or weird. My work is tailored around your needs and goals, drawing on CBT, DIT, RLT, ACT, CFT, systemic, person centred and psychodynamic approaches. Building a relationship with you, to be on your side and help you through what you are going through in a non-judgemental space, is the most important first step.

I have also trained as a Child and Family Mediator, which informs my work with couples and families, particularly those navigating separation and co-parenting arrangements.
A significant part of my practice is couples work. Most couples arrive for therapy certain that the other person is the problem. What usually emerges over time is a shared dynamic, patterns that both people are contributing to. When that becomes conscious, couples can begin to work with each other rather than against each other.

Sometimes the issues we carry feel too big or painful to put into words. Other times, they feel too small or strange to bring to therapy. You might worry you won’t be taken seriously—or that you’re “too much,” or “not enough.” As a systemic therapist, I consider not just your internal world but also the relationships, histories, and wider social and cultural contexts that shape it. This means we might look together at recurring patterns, family dynamics, identity, or past experiences. My approach is collaborative and non-pathologising. I don’t offer quick fixes—but I do offer a space to think, feel, and be alongside.

FAQ - Marriage Counselling
What issues does marriage counselling help with?
Marriage counselling can address common relationship concerns, including ongoing conflict, communication challenges, emotional distance, or difficulty making decisions together. It may also be helpful for couples who are not currently experiencing major problems but want to prepare for future life changes. For more specific concerns affecting one individual in the relationship, such as trauma, depression, or significant substance use concerns, individual therapy may be more appropriate than marriage counselling.

When is the right time to start marriage counselling?
There is no single “right” time to start marriage counselling, but certain signs may suggest that counselling could be helpful. For example, a couple may benefit from counselling if many conversations end in conflict, if negative interactions are becoming more frequent, or if relationship stress is affecting other areas of life, such as sleep, work, parenting, or friendships. Some couples also seek counselling proactively. Premarital counselling, for instance, allows couples to discuss communication styles, finances, family dynamics, and future goals before getting married. Other couples may start counselling before a major life change, such as becoming parents, relocating, or navigating a stressful career transition.

Is marriage counselling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Marriage counselling may still help even if one partner is more hesitant to attend, as long as both people are ultimately willing to participate in sessions. Once counselling is underway, the more hesitant partner may become more open to sessions that can strengthen the relationship and build coping skills and communication strategies. If one partner refuses to attend, individual therapy may still help the other partner understand their needs, set boundaries, and decide how to approach the relationship.

Is online marriage counselling as effective as in-person?
There are differing opinions on the best format for marriage counselling. While some studies show that online marriage counselling can be as effective as in-person counselling, some argue that in-person counselling is more effective because it allows the therapist to better pick up on context and body language cues. In addition, in-person counselling may be a better fit for couples who are working through high-conflict issues. Ultimately, the “best” format depends on the couple’s specific needs and concerns.

What is faith-based marriage counselling and how is it different?
Faith-based marriage counselling incorporates a couple’s religious or spiritual beliefs into counselling. It may be a good fit for couples who want to discuss their relationship, values, and marriage within the context of their faith. For example, Christian marriage counselling may appeal to couples who want a counsellor familiar with Christian beliefs about marriage. Other forms of faith-based counselling may incorporate Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or other religious perspectives into sessions.

How much does marriage counselling cost and is it covered by insurance?
Marriage counselling is usually paid for privately in Great Britain, rather than through the NHS, and sessions often cost around £60 to £120 or more. Fees depend on location, with costs generally higher in the London area, as well as counsellor experience, session length, and practice setting. However, lower-cost options may be available through sliding scale fees, which adjust the cost of counselling based on income, as well as through community clinics or non-profit organisations that offer reduced-cost services.
