If you are suffering from symptoms related to PTSD or complex PTSD, EMDR therapy can help to alleviate your symptoms. Clients working with me using EMDR have found that their symptoms such as flashbacks and/or being unable to go to certain places can be alleviated or reduced to the point where they are manageable. This work is supported with self help techniques to manage new anxieties as and when they may present themselves, but from a new and more adaptive perspective. I also offer the Safe and Sound Protocol alongside therapy sessions for those clients who wish to work in a polyvagal informed way.

I offer sessions face to face in my safe & comfy therapy room based in Walton on the Naze, I also work online, so wherever you are in the world. Feeling stuck, anxious, or not quite yourself — but unsure whether therapy is for you? Many people come to therapy feeling exactly this way, often after trying to manage alone for a long time. I’m an experienced therapist offering a warm, supportive space to explore what’s happening for you. I don’t see therapy as a last resort — it’s something I use myself when I need support and clarity. If this hits home, I invite you to get in touch for an initial chat.

Thank you for looking at my profile, I'm guessing this may be a big step and I understand that reaching out for help may be daunting or overwhelming, by the time people come here they have often spoken to family or friends. Are you struggling with anxiety or low mood? Are you stuck in patterns of behaviour that no longer serve you? Are you dealing with the impact of childhood trauma? Maybe you just need a safe space to talk? No problem is too big or too small to bring to therapy. I run a private practice from a garden room in my home and I work as a counsellor for the charity Mind.

We all face challenges and difficult seasons in life that can leave us feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward. This may show up as low mood, anxiety, overwhelming thoughts, or difficulty managing emotions. As a therapist qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I provide a supportive and compassionate space where we can explore these challenges together and work towards meaningful change. Starting therapy or opening up to someone new can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first experience of therapy. I understand the uncertainty this can bring, and I aim to make the process feel as comfortable as possible.

Are you struggling with intimacy, sexual confidence, or feeling disconnected from your partner or your own body? Difficulties with sex and relationships are incredibly common, but many people feel too ashamed or anxious to talk about them. This can be from a combination of how sex was talked about in your household, your sex education, early sexual experiences and unpleasant sexual experiences. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore what’s going on and begin to move forward.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
