Amongst other things, I support adults with anxiety, grief, lack of self confidence, meaning in life and suicidal risk.
At times life can become too much, you may be struggling and feeling stuck, not knowing which way to turn. You may chose to explore relationships, patterns of behaviour and influences from the past or present. Choices made due to abuse, trauma or any other issues may be holding you back from your true potential. Either way, we can work towards seeking greater understanding of your unique problems in a non-judgemental curious way.

I work with older children (12+) and adults. I have experience of working with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, domestic abuse, relationships, sexuality, grief/loss, behavioural issues and addiction/alcoholism. I have also recently worked voluntarily for two charities counselling young people affected by domestic abuse, and with people in addiction recovery. I work with a person centred foundation, therefore sessions are led by the clients needs as an individual. We work together to find the best way forward. The therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance.

Are you anxious/depressed/stressed/unhappy? Maybe you know the issue and don't want to feel this way any more? Even if you don't exactly know what is wrong, we will work with you to find out the cause so that you can live a happier, more contented life. We aim to get to the root of the problem so that the change is permanent. If you haven't had counselling before, or feel nervous about it, please call me for an informal chat. Counselling can be (and often is) a life changing experience. We suggest a 1st session, by the end of which you will know if you want to carry on. If you are a couple we have a specialist. Feel free to call.

Welcome! I am an American-trained member of the BACP, with 9 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients struggling with a range of mental health difficulties (chronic and acute: depression, anxiety, stress, trauma), but have specific experience with relationship issues (infidelity, breakups/divorce, struggles to connect); grief, bereavement and loss; and addiction. My style is warm and interactive, but challenging when needed. Being non-judgmental, and treating others with respect, sensitivity, and compassion is the bedrock of counselling, and is built into all of my feedback and reflections.

Most people are currently in or have tried to be in relationships. These may be with partners, family members, children or with work colleagues. Mental health issues or traumas that have happened earlier in life can often impact those relationships and cause stress. Often individuals feel stuck with these difficulties repeating them although they don't work. Individual or couple counselling can help here. So can focusing on other effects like working with the family or the children.

Counselling allows you the space to explore your feelings, discomforts, confusion and anxieties. Life can be stressful and overwhelming, sometimes it is difficult to reach out for help. Whatever you are experiencing, by searching for a counsellor you have taken the first step towards investing in yourself. My approach to counselling is integrative, this means that I use different approaches and techniques to meet your needs. Alongside counselling, my previous work has included working with individuals with different learning disabilities, mental health needs and chronic illness.

My personal philosophy in life and within my counselling practice is that the human condition is often very difficult to navigate, and we are the expert in our own world. I offer an environment that is conducive to learning about oneself and how we integrate or negotiate who we are in the world. I have an innate belief that given the right environment ( an environment empathy and non-judgmentalism known as unconditional positive regard) Given this environment I believe enables people to develop that innate capacity to heal, grow and develop to a more authentic, self-nurturing sense of self

There are a variety of reasons why people come to counselling or psychotherapy. We all throughout our lives face difficult and challenging times and for some having additional support is all that is needed. I offer a safe place for you to unburden those concerns, voice your fears, anger, or frustration, at your own pace in a confidential, non-judgemental, and relaxed environment. My aim is to help you make sense of your feelings and help you move on in your life. The thought of having therapy can feel a bit daunting at first, fear of the unknown, but it is the first step to moving forward on your journey. One step at a time!

Hello. I qualified as a person centred therapist in 2013 and feel privileged to have worked with so many individuals for whom life, for whatever reason, has become difficult, confusing or unbearable. Sometimes we have an idea as to why and sometimes we are at a loss. Either way, knowing how to help oneself can be a different matter entirely. I believe I can help.

Working with and through depression, anxiety, shame, suicidal crisis, anger, bullying, panic disorders, relationship issues, complex trauma, psychedelic integration and questions of spirituality and meaning, such as Who am I?.
Welcome to my practice, where your personal growth and transformation journey is supported with compassion. Together, we'll identify and change the thought and behaviour patterns that keep you from being your best. I know from personal experience that therapy can be both enjoyable and, at times, challenging. I draw on many techniques, including visualisation, dream exploration, drawing, bodywork, role-play, and the most familiar method: conversation between two people.

My service is aimed at supporting women who have experienced recent or non-recent child abuse, sexual trauma and domestic abuse to feel safe, grounded and in control. Child abuse, sexual trauma and domestic abuse can have a psychological, emotional and physical impact that can leave you struggling to cope, constantly hyperviligent, disconnected from who you are and feeling like there is no way forwards. Because of this suicidal thoughts and self-harm can also be common after experiencing these traumas. I specialise in suicide prevention and harm reduction, working collaboratively to explore any internal pain you may be experiencing.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
