Hello, and thank you for reading my profile. Are you looking for long-term, in-depth, psychotherapy? Or do you have a particular issue you need to explore in counselling? Perhaps you're a qualified practitioner looking for a clinical supervisor. I could be that person for you, if we find we are a good fit. Whichever best describes you, my work is underpinned with an understanding of spirituality as a personal jorney into the nature of suffering. I think of spirituality as a pathway to self-development. Specifically, I work with mindfulness and Buddhist psychology to explore your current state of being, in mind, body and spirit.

I will use mindfulness and somatic exercises to help you feel grounded and regulated, this may be breathing or gentle movements to calm your body .
Life can be challenging and at times we may not have the capacity to deal with everything going on. I have created the garden room in Launton, the village I live in, where the outdoors comes in to promote healing. Private and overlooking its own garden, it’s a peaceful space within which to work through what is troubling you at this time.

Hello I'm Laura. I want to acknowledge the courage you have shown to seek therapy and in order to support you in finding the right therapist, I want to share more about my approach. I believe that therapy can support people in healing and understanding even our most painful experiences. My aim as your counsellor is to be alongside you as you discover more about yourself and what you need in this journey. I am Irish and have spent the last decade living and working in England. I offer a free 20 minute Zoom consultation to explore what brings you to therapy, and whether sessions with me might help.

As a UKCP-accredited psychodynamic therapist with a four-year postgraduate training at Oxford University, I provide a private, confidential space for individuals, couples, and polycules. My work focuses on examining the unconscious patterns influencing your life, relationships, and wellbeing. Whether you are dealing with acute distress or seeking to explore long-standing personal dynamics, I offer a professional, contained environment. I believe lasting change is achieved by working through root causes while simultaneously addressing the symptoms—such as anxiety, depression, or relational disconnection—that bring you to therapy.

Anxiety has a way of shaping more of your life than you'd like. For some people it looks like panic or physical sensations. For others it's never feeling good enough, holding back in relationships, going quiet when they'd want to speak up, or pushing through everything until they're exhausted. People come to me thinking something is wrong with them, when actually fear has just taken over.

If you're the person others rely on, asking for help yourself can feel unfamiliar. You may appear to be coping. You might be successful at work, meeting responsibilities and keeping everything together, but inside you feel exhausted, anxious or stuck in patterns of overthinking, self-criticism or people-pleasing. I help people who are used to pushing through, but who want to understand themselves more deeply and create lasting change. Together, we’ll explore what’s driving these patterns so you can feel calmer, more confident and more like yourself again.

My approach is trauma-informed and draws on EMDR, somatic and attachment-based work.
Therapy with me is a regular, collaborative process where we look beneath the surface. We may explore your nervous system, your history, your body responses and the ways you learned to protect yourself. This work can support emotional repair, clearer boundaries and a more connected relationship with yourself.

You look like you’re coping. But inside, something feels off. You might be overthinking everything, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, burnt out from holding too much for too long, questioning your direction, identity, or going through a period of change. Your life doesn’t follow a straight line. And you’re starting to realise the usual advice doesn’t quite fit. Rather than trying to “fix” you, we work to understand you. Together, we: make sense of your patterns; understand how your past experiences are shaping your present and build a way of living that works for you - not against you. So you can move on with clarity and choice.

Many people who seek counselling or psychotherapy have found themselves experiencing relationship problems or emotional difficulties, however, therapy can also benefit those who are curious about themselves and wish to engage in therapy for personal growth.

The client is the most important person in a counselling relationship, my job is to help you feel valued, and understood so you also believe this. My ideal client will want to work towards processing their feelings, achieving their goals and be willing to work with me to make this happen. I like to work with clients that are struggling with making sense of life. Feeling unable to move on from past experiences, having that space and time to reflect and process things can make a huge difference. I enjoy cultivating an environment to help my clients work through life's challenges.

Are you finding life a struggle? Do you feel stuck, or disconnected from yourself? I invite you to take a breath and listen in. What do you need right now? When was the last time someone really listened to you with calm, warm acceptance, without judgement, and with curiosity and kindness? I offer a safe, welcoming space where we can explore together the way in which you relate to yourself and others. As a senior student in Core Process Psychotherapy, I use gentle embodied mindfulness and presence to help you relate to yourself in a new way, to come into relationship with the whole of yourself with kindness and curiosity.

I’m inspired by the intersection of evidence-based therapies and holistic approaches that incorporate spirituality, mindfulness, and somatic practices.
My approach is rooted in compassion, authenticity, and a deep understanding that healing is as much about reconnecting with yourself as it is about addressing the wounds you’ve endured. Where relevant I can help you to understand the source of your core pain, which acknowledges and honours the struggles you have already endured while identifying the strengths you have developed to adapt and survive. Where some of these adaptations have become unhelpful, I work with you to discover healthy coping mechanisms and tools moving forward.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
