For example, we might use Gestalt therapy to explore your present difficulties, or Psychodynamic therapy to explore how your past is affecting you in the present.
I believe each person is a unique individual who moves through counselling at their own pace. This journey is not always straightforward, but we can work collaboratively to explore and understand your thoughts and feelings to enable you to lead a more fulfilling life.

I use an integrative model which draws upon commonalities between cognitive-behavioural, humanistic and psychodynamic counselling approaches and allows me to tailor my work to meet the needs of each individual client.
My practice is centred around acceptance of you as an individual. You will be provided with a safe space to be heard and validated without judgment, pressure, or expectation. I feel that my genuine approach and kind, warm nature positively impacts my relationships with clients which is essential for therapeutic success. Together, we will work to explore and understand what is happening beneath the surface, identify patterns, and make links between the past and the present. I believe that this is the key to building self-awareness and self-love.

You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Many of the people I work with are functioning day-to-day, but something doesn’t quite sit right — overthinking, feeling stuck, low mood, or a sense of disconnection.
They’re often thoughtful, self-aware people who have tried to figure things out on their own, but keep going round in circles. Therapy offers a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and begin to move forward in a way that feels more grounded and real.

I believe we are all susceptible, at some point in our lives, to feeling overwhelmed by what life can bring. Sometimes we encounter experiences that are hard for us to come to terms with leaving us in need of support, this may be in the form of a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, a job loss; any event that we struggle to comprehend and understand. Other times a series of events may have taken place that leave us feeling like we are walking under a big black cloud and fail to see a way forward. At times like this counselling can help.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
