Making the decision to seek help is a strength, not a sign of weakness, by acknowledging that you have reached the point of needing additional support. The first step is always the most difficult but I can support you as you embark on your journey to strive for change. Finding the right counsellor is really important as you need to feel comfortable enough to share your vulnerability and know that you will be accepted and not judged. I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe, confidential space where they can feel respected and heard. I work with individuals, couples and groups of up to four people over the age of 18.

Hi, I am Nathan, welcome. I have over 20 years experience in the NHS assessing, treating and supporting people with mental ill health, I have studied counselling and psychotherapy and I am in the advanced stages of training as a Transactional Analyst (T.A.) psychotherapist. This form of therapy involves the person taking a close observation of themselves and of how those around us shaped our personality. Many people think that this is unchangeable, transactional analysis helps us to analyse our beliefs about ourselves and others and to look at these beliefs in the here and now, test these beliefs and decontamonate our thinking.

Our relationships are the source of our greatest joys and deepest heartaches. At times we will experience loss, neglect or betrayal of someone we trusted. A devastating experience. Other times the 'spark' may have just gone from our relationship and we don't know how to rekindle intimacy. I work with couples, families and individuals who are struggling with close relationships. Intimate relationships can sometimes be difficult and even painful, whether we are currently in one, have recently left one, or are alone and longing to be part of a couple. I specialise in helping people with sexual and relationship issues as they affect both individuals and couples. If you are in a couple, I will provide you with a supportive, neutral environment in which it becomes possible to think and communicate in ways you may find it difficult to do on your own. When it comes to sexual issues, I will make you feel comfortable talking about them, and provide you with information, advice, and homework as needed.

Life can be difficult for many reasons. Feeling vulnerable, alone or lost, not knowing how to cope, and maybe the fear of talking about it? Whatever is getting you down you don't have to struggle alone. Destructive patterns of behaviour can be changed, emotional issues recalibrated to enable a new focus. I am interested in hypnotherapy approaches in psychoneuroimmunology (PNI); the relationship between immunity, the endocrine system, and the central and peripheral nervous systems in my hypnosis therapy work with cancer patients for emotional distress, anxiety and depression, as mental health support as complimentary care.

Hi – my name is Jo. I’m a Counselling Psychotherapist and I work with both adults and children. Sometimes life will present us with challenges and difficulties that we struggle to make sense of, or that make us feel stuck and unable to move forward positively. Not knowing what to do or how to be when we have these experiences can create a diverse set of uncomfortable feelings. Its different for everyone...whilst one person may feel overwhelmed or isolated, another may struggle with anger, anxiety or depression. Perhaps this sounds like you?

With 20 yrs Counselling and Psychology experience, I now seek to work with two main client groups. 1) Clients who've already reached a deeper understanding of their issues, symptoms & diagnoses (via therapy &/or self-help etc), but have found that these insights have not been sufficient to end their psychological suffering. And 2) Parents/carers/educators struggling with youngsters who can be violent, self-destructive &/or very defiant. These clients have found that traditional reward & punishment approaches fail to solve (or indeed actually escalate) the problem and are looking for an effective, trauma-sensitive alternative.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
