I appreciate it is difficult to discuss our problems but I have many years of experince working with people with common mental health conditions, or recovering form mental illness and those experienceing a combination of mental health issues and drug and alchohol addiction.
Hi, I am Nathan, welcome. I have over 20 years experience in the NHS assessing, treating and supporting people with mental ill health, I have studied counselling and psychotherapy and I am in the advanced stages of training as a Transactional Analyst (T.A.) psychotherapist. This form of therapy involves the person taking a close observation of themselves and of how those around us shaped our personality. Many people think that this is unchangeable, transactional analysis helps us to analyse our beliefs about ourselves and others and to look at these beliefs in the here and now, test these beliefs and decontamonate our thinking.

Welcome. Either as a couple or an individual, you’ve taken the first step... Life doesn’t always follow the path we expect. At times, we can feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from ourselves and others. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, loss, relationship struggles, or simply a sense that something isn’t right, therapy offers a safe and supportive space to explore what’s happening and move toward meaningful change. As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches rather than following a single model. This means that our sessions are shaped around you - your story, your needs, and your goals.

People seek therapy for a many reasons. Perhaps following relational wounding in child or adulthood, you wish to process the impacts of these wounds. Or, having identified habitual relational patterns, you now seek relational change and confidence. You may struggle with unwelcome thoughts or emotions or negative sense of self. We can explore how these impact your choices and your body and behaviour responses as you seek new approaches to life issues. Perhaps you are struggling with loss or unwelcome changes in your life and want to consider how to live with new realities. I offer a safe space, to be heard, valued and accepted.

I imagine if you are reading this, you or someone you know needs help understanding or coping with something that is going on right now. If this is the case I am sorry you or they are finding things difficult. I understand that trying to choose a therapist is also a daunting task. I remember how I felt when seeking therapeutic help. I felt anxious and wondered if I could share things with a complete stranger. Probably the most important thing is that you meet someone you can get on with and build trust. The 15 minuite free call I offer will hopefully provide an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little.

I can help you identify and meet your missing emotional needs so that you can heal and stay mentally balanced; moving you on from states such as stress, anxiety, depression, anger, or addiction.
I offer a 60 minute session as it is important to me that you feel supported and heard without being rushed. If you have PTSD, or any upsetting memories, there is no need for you to divulge any details at all. You can expect to leave feeling emotionally much calmer, and more in control than you have perhaps felt in a long time.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
