Sometimes, we can find ourselves presenting a face to the world that isn't our true self - one that we think will allow us to fit in, to build profitable careers, or to find the love we seek. We often don't realise we are doing this, but instead just feel a sense of stress or discomfort, physical or mental exhaustion, or find ourselves behaving in ways that don't seem healthy or in keeping with our ideals. My focus is to help you find fulfilment in life by being true to yourself and being more integrated as a person - to help you achieve success and balance in your relationships and in your worklife - whatever success means to you.

I am a natural empath, and will be attuned and sensitive to your emotional needs and seek to understand your individual difficulties through your own lens, by stepping into your world in a person-centred way. I may facilitate your self-awareness and understanding of possible unconscious thoughts, fears and beliefs, by drawing from psychodynamic ideas. Or I may integrate CBT to help you identify possible unhelpful negative thinking patterns and explore new, more supportive ways in which you could respond to your difficulties, by focussing on your strengths.

I have a special interest in OCD, and have worked with numerous clients, with a multitude of themes, to obtain great results using a combination of CBT and ERP therapy which is considered the gold standard approach for therapeutic intervention.
None of us are immune to life's difficulties, and speaking with a counsellor whilst going through difficult times can significantly lessen that burden. It provides you with the time, space and support to process where you are in your life right now, and where you want to be heading. I have been working within the counselling field for over 17 years. I have worked within NHS settings and various counselling organisations in that time, offering a variety of proven, effective therapies to assist a wide range of issues.

Anxiety is a natural part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming, it can stop you from doing what matters most—perhaps spending time with loved ones, trying new experiences, or simply feeling at ease. In an effort to cope, it's easy to fall into patterns that make anxiety worse, leaving you feeling stuck or isolated. You might build walls to protect yourself from disappointing others or feeling embarrassed, but those same walls can push people away, leaving you more disconnected. My approach is centered on creating a compassionate, safe space where we can explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are holding you back.

Taking the first step in therapy may be the hardest. Perhaps you have never opened up to anyone before, and this might seem like a daunting or overwhelming prospect. It is easy to get stuck in old patterns of behaviour, which prevent us from realising our potential or moving our lives forward. Do you carry baggage from your past or have fears for the future? You may be struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one, or perhaps you have self-destructive thoughts. You could have problems with addiction or depression or be locked in an abusive relationship or an unhappy marriage. I am here to help you find the real you.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
