Hello my name is Sonya, I am a CBT therapist (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). Sometimes in life we all get to a point where we just need to reach out. I can offer you time to listen effectively in a comfortable, safe, and confidential environment. Working with CBT enables you to talk about your feelings and emotions in situations as they may affect our behaviours and by recognising this we can adapt some change. Being able to express your feelings or presenting issue may be difficult especially to loved ones, family and friends. Reach Out will empower you to contribute to your well-being, sense of belonging, and self worth in Therapy.

It is my belief that we all have very unique and individual reasons and circumstances surrounding our issues and that taking the step to share them with someone else can be intimidating. Which is why I am open to working in a non-judgemental way, with anyone who feels they want to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and nurturing environment. I offer face to face or online video counselling via Zoom because I realise that not everyone wants to be in the same room as their therapist or are able to travel.

People who are finding every day a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger. At the other end of the spectrum are some who may have feelings of dissatisfaction a sense that they are not getting all they want in their lives. I believe that all of us want to strive to be happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense of well being and connection with the world around us.

Life brings moments of joy, but it can also present challenges that feel heavy to carry. Sometimes it is as if we are holding boxes filled with painful memories—things we have tucked away, hoping to forget. Over time, those boxes can pile up, leaving us unsure where to begin.
Together, we can gently unpack these boxes—one at a time. At your own pace, we will explore what is inside, make sense of it, and gradually let go of what no longer serves you, leaving you with what is truly yours

My work in all areas of adoption has provided me with the knowledge and skills to work with traumatic loss, abuse and developmental difficulties.
At any time in our lives events can take over leaving us feeling anxious or depressed; or early negative experiences or trauma can replay in our mind, causing distress. My belief is that each individual is the person best placed to make the right decisions about themselves, however, there are times when we can lose sight of who we are and feel taken over by negative thoughts, feelings and responses that seem to work at odds with the life we want to lead. Counselling can help to make sense of these thoughts, feelings and responses and explore options for change by providing a safe space where you will be heard and respected.

I am a young people’s counsellor, working with clients aged 11-30. We all experience life differently, not one person’s life is the same as another. You may be experiencing anxiety at school or work. Worrying about upcoming deadlines or exams. You may have uncertainty about who you are and feel or think negatively about yourself. You may be feeling burnout and want to build a good work/life balance. It can be hard to recognise and manage everything on our own. I can offer you a confidential, non-judgemental space to feel heard. Together we can identify your triggers and develop coping strategies to help you face your challenges.

Counselling can be a wonderful experience and give you the opportunity to be open and honest in a safe and non judgemental space. However, I also understand that making that step to try counselling can be scary and daunting. I will offer you this safe space so that you feel able to talk about what is on your mind, whether that be past, present or future difficulties or concerns. In an often busy and loud world, we can often find it difficult to hear and connect with our own voice. Giving ourselves the space and time to connect with this voice can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves and our world around us.

If you are reading this well done for taking the first step. You may want to learn more about me and more about yourself. Perhaps at this moment there are some areas of your life that aren’t manageable on your own. In deciding to reach out it's most important that it shows you are aware that things could be better. I would very much welcome the opportunity to be by your side as you realise whatever ‘better’ might be for you!

As a woman in your midlife, you may be feeling overwhelmed by physical, psychological and emotional challenges. Dealing with this complex stage in life, involving children leaving, ageing parents, work-related stress and menopause symptoms, can feel relentless and deeply unsettling.
On the outside you might seem like you’ve got it all under control but inside you could be feeling lost and uncertain about the future. If you’ve gone from feeling capable, confident, and sociable to struggling with the chaos of midlife, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and unsure how to cope, it’s a difficult and lonely place to be.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
