EMDR: could it help me?
Let’s consider if it’s right for you. EMDR can ease prolonged grief, anxiety, sleep issues, addictions, low self-esteem, and OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), helping you feel more in control without erasing memories.
Do you feel overwhelmed?
Something has left you flooded with emotion, unable to carry on with everyday life. There’s not enough room in your head to function as you need to, you’re losing sleep, and every little thing makes you jump.
Erratic emotions
You can’t calm yourself, and you keep on being reminded of what happened. You’ve tried talking about it, but that hasn’t helped.

Do you feel at a crossroads—perhaps stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by emotions that you can’t quite make sense of? You may be feeling anxious or low, struggling with a recent loss, processing difficult past experiences, or simply sensing that something in your life needs to change. You might be navigating a life transition, facing burnout, relationship difficulties, or feeling as though you’re living on autopilot. Sometimes, there’s no clear label for what’s wrong—just a sense that things could be better.

Feel stuck? Like you’re going through the motions but something’s off?
Maybe you’ve hit a wall in your relationship. Maybe you keep falling into the same cycles—numbing out, losing your temper, pulling away when things get tough. Or maybe you’ve built a life that looks good on paper but still feel like something’s missing.
Most people don’t talk about this stuff. Instead, they grind through it alone, pushing down what they really feel, hoping it’ll sort itself out.
But here’s the truth: what you ignore doesn’t disappear—it just controls you from the background.

People sometimes think counselling is only for those who have experienced severe trauma. It’s not. My clients don’t always know the cause of their discomfort. They just know that something isn’t quite right. I’m a firm believer that everyone can benefit from counselling. My clients come to me for a variety of reasons. Some want counselling to recover from childhood trauma, domestic abuse or physical violence. Others feel isolated, alone and unheard. Perhaps you’ve experienced bullying, low self-esteem or suicidal thoughts. Many of my clients don’t really know what’s wrong. They just feel burdened, unhappy or ‘stuck’.

Sometimes life no longer makes sense. Old ways of coping don't work. You and your relationships seem stuck in a loop. If you are at that point, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and begin to understand what's really going on beneath the surface.
I work in an integrative way, drawing on whatever approach suits you best. At heart, it's about creating a space where you can feel safe enough to explore what hurts and what helps.

Often, the reasons given to me for arriving to therapy are feature one or more of the following: anxiety, depression, sadness, self confidence, life changing illnesses, self identity, early childhood, past or present relationships, bereavements, traumatic experiences, injury and mental health diagnosis. FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
