Hi, I’m Jodi. I’m a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist blending CBT, REBT, Art Therapy, neuroscience, and trauma-informed practice. I focus on why therapy can sometimes feel frustrating, pointless, or even absurd, like being asked “How does that make you feel?” for the hundredth time, being told to focus on your breathing when all you want to do is facepalm, or hearing “Name five things you can see” and wondering if screaming at your therapist is actually an acceptable response. The truth is, until you understand what’s really happening in your brain and body—and why certain strategies could help—most techniques just don’t stick.

I have a particular interest in fatherhood, relationships and parenting, and enjoy working with both couples and individuals.
Life can throw challenges at us that prove too much for us to cope with on our own. I believe that we are not to blame for the difficulties we might face, and that they are the natural consequences of what we have experienced in life. If you are feeling stuck and unable to change things yourself, or repeating difficult and destructive patterns of behaviour, working with and talking with someone not involved in your life can help make profound change. Together we can explore what has helped to shape the way you are now, and how you want to be in the future, in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space.

I am a transpersonal practitioner trained at the Psychosynthesis Trust. Transpersonal encompasses mind, body and spirit in the therapy process. It is primarily a talking therapy but it also involves experiential exercises, visualisation and guided meditation. Before I trained in psychotherapy I spent many years in the creative industries, where I became very familiar with anxiety and stress related conditions. I also have twenty years experience of working with alcohol and substance misuse. I work with anxiety, trauma, panic attacks, relationship problems and difficulties that occur in coping with everyday life.

Working exclusively via video call ensuring that clients feel relaxed in familiar surroundings, I work with my clients to help them to find a route through their struggles, helping them to unhook themselves from unhelpful thinking styles and strategies. From the outset my clients understand that counselling requires them to put into practice the things that we identify during our sessions - just like homework. The solutions don't come from our sessions, they come from the work that my clients put in between our sessions.

I also support parents with perinatal concerns (including pre- and postnatal anxiety, low mood and birth trauma) and early years concerns such as sleep, tantrums and parent-child relationships.
The foundation of effective therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a compassionate and non-judgemental environment where children and families feel safe, heard and understood. I work integratively, tailoring support to each family by drawing on evidence-based therapy using CFT, ACT, CBT, Narrative and Systemic approaches.

I aim to provide a therapeutic experience that directly addresses the presenting issues, but also nourishes psychological, spiritual, emotional, social and physical health and well-being, as these aspects are all inter-connected. Coming to therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you're working through difficult times in your personal or professional life. My clients are usually people who want to see the connections between their current state and how they got here, are willing to do the emotional work necessary to move on.

Are you a mother lying awake at 3am, re-reading old texts from your adult child and asking yourself, "Where did I miss it?" Perhaps there's been an argument, a growing silence, or a painful estrangement, and you're exhausted from the worrying and trying to fix things that refuse to be fixed. You are not alone, and you are not a failure. I work with mothers navigating guilt, shame, grief, and the identity crisis that can come when children grow into adults with lives of their own. I'm an active partner in your therapy, which means we will explore different possibilities together and look at what is truly within your power to change.

You’re tired of feeling this way—and not fully understanding why. You might look like you’re coping on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, not good enough, or stuck in the same patterns—especially in relationships. Maybe you overthink everything. Maybe you people-please, doubt yourself, or feel like you’re “too much” or “not enough” at the same time. Often, these patterns don’t come out of nowhere. They’re shaped by early experiences—growing up in environments where you were criticised, dismissed, or didn’t feel safe to fully be yourself.

Parenting is the most important job that we can do, as a parent I very much understand, finding a way through is imperative.
Therapy is my passion, people are my passion, I have extensive experience in providing a safe space for children and adults. Therapy helped me so much when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I want to be able to help people in the same way. Feeling out of control can be very scary, whether with alcohol, drugs, food, relationships, sex. Wanting to express your emotions but not knowing how to do it in a safe way. This is where I can help, providing a calm, therapeutic, safe space. Sitting alongside adults, helping them to see their true selves or with young people working creatively to explore their emotions

Childhood trauma, domestic or sexual abuse and or other painful experiences can affect how we feel, relate to others and move through life. Some experiences just stay with us long after they've happened. You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, numb or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. If so, I offer a warm, supportive space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, without pressure or judgement. Together, we can begin to make sense of what's happened and help you feel more connected to yourself. Based in Bermondsey, South London, I offer weekly therapy online and in person.

I believe a good personal connection is of vital importance, and hence offer our initial session for free. With so many years in the field I'll almost certainly have experience with whatever you bring, and I'll listen fully and without judgement. Clients often say it's a huge relief to finally share, as the root of so much pain lies in an awful sense of isolation and shame, a feeling of 'What's wrong with me?' We find ourselves nursing a raw wound yet dread being seen as needy or vulnerable. It’s hard reaching out for help, but we consult professionals in all other areas so why not here where it actually matters the most.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
