Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counselling in Isleworth
My practise is Attachment-based and Trauma-informed based on IFS, ACT, Psychodynamic and Somatic Therapy but what matters most is that the therapy fits who you are, not the other way around.
If you’re reading this, something in your life may feel heavy, overwhelming or stuck. Maybe you’ve been carrying anxiety for a long time, repeating old patterns in relationships or feeling disconnected from who you are. You might look “fine” on the outside while inside things feel tangled, uncertain or too much to hold alone.
I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can slow down, explore what’s going on beneath the surface and begin to feel more like yourself again.

Being human can be a wonderful experience, full of joy and connection; but it can also be overwhelming, bewildering, and exhausting. It’s no wonder many of us end up repeating unhelpful behaviours that defeat our interests, despite our knowledge and best intentions.

I wonder if you have been feeling sad, stressed or anxious? Have these feelings been with you for a long time? Are you wondering when they will reappear? It’s like dreading what is around the corner and finding it hard to enjoy or feel good in the present. Other people look like they’re having fun but your world is a shade of grey. Things that you loved doing no longer give you happiness and it's hard to concentrate. At times it takes lots of energy to go out or spend time with people who care about you. Your confidence and ability to cope disappear as you become stuck and the people around you become as worn down as you feel.

Hello, I’m Nia! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
Life often asks us to carry more than we realise. Past experiences, cultural and family expectations, or inner struggles can leave us feeling heavy, uncertain, or disconnected from ourselves. Just as the body needs care to heal, so too does the mind and heart. Therapy offers a space to pause, reflect, and gently reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been forgotten along the way. For me, therapy is less about “fixing” and more about exploring, remembering, and realigning at your own pace, in your own way.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
