I support people to make positive changes so they can heal, thrive and live fulfilling and meaningful lives. Its time to become the person you have always wanted to be! Discovering what is important for you as an individual and learning to identify and use your inner resources to cope in times of stress, anxiety, bereavement, depression and emotional upheaval such as divorce, redundancy or retirement are just a few of the benefits of counselling. Often just talking through a traumatic experience or difficult feelings with another person can be incredibly therapeutic and will empower you to reach your potential.

Hi, I’m Ed Christmas. I am a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, having trained and practiced integratively since 2018. I offer both online and face-to-face therapy from my studio in Bentley, Suffolk, from the Stephenson Centre in Ipswich, and at the Natural Health Centre in Woodbridge, Suffolk. I have a particular interest in working with clients to help them recognise and address their conditioning and trauma. Often, it is the things that we learned or were told along the way that are problematic - about ourselves, others and the world - about our past, present and future - about our purpose and our identity.

Are you feeling low? Anxious? Questioning your worth for others and yourself? Feeling isolated irrespective of your social and community connections? You are not alone. Whilst battling these internal conflicts can leave you feeling alienated, and somewhat of a black sheep, my experiences, both professionally and personally, suggest that these are universal of human living. I have worked with a range of such experiences, including depression, suicide ideation, domestic violence, racial identity and various LGBTQ+ issues, including gender identity and expression and sexuality.

Clients have come to me for many different reasons. From dealing with past traumas, connecting with their emotions and understanding their reactions, to working on a better sense of self and building confidence. Each client comes to therapy seeking a safe and non-judgmental space to unpack their thoughts and emotions. They often come because they don't feel heard in their day-to-day life, or need somewhere to explore emotions without fear of reactions or feelings of guilt.

Extreme trauma exists in PTSD but in some way all of us experience trauma from the school bully to the manager who does not listen. We all have states of anxiety and depression. What is a normal state and how do we know if we are heading for a breakdown. What is a balanced happy life? We can have control of some things in our life and other things come along and smack us in the face. What therapy with me does is give you a space for observation without personal judgement or criticism , questions from me so that I understand your motivations and help shape your goals. Sometimes your answers are in the past, often in the present.

I work with adults who are figuring out who they are, what matters to them, and how to navigate life’s changes and transitions. Many are exploring identity, purpose, and big existential questions while managing anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, or the lasting impact of past experiences. They may feel stuck, torn, or disconnected, trying to understand how their past, environment, relationships, and personal context shape them, and reconnect with the different parts of themselves. They want clarity, self-understanding, and the space to live authentically.

Anxiety, depression, trauma, menopause – whatever has brought you here today - I understand because I’ve been where you are right now. What you’re looking for is a way out of the dark space you’re in; to be guided by someone who knows the way; someone who has been there themself. Nothing gives me more joy than guiding people along a path that has been trodden by not just me, but many others just like you! I offer a warm and friendly welcome, either in our lovely space here in the Suffolk countryside - where the kettle is always on! Or from the comfort of your own home via Zoom.

Sometimes we lose sight of ourselves and need a little help reconnecting, sometimes we become lost and sometimes we have that familiar experience of ‘why is this happening to me again?’. How we used to relate to ourselves and to others may not be working quite so well now. The defences we have in place to protect us can get in the way and do not work quite like they used to. Being human can be tough and it can be hard to see the wood for the trees. To have someone walk alongside, wherever the path may lead, can be a truly transformative process.

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Counsellors
Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?
A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialised knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?
Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organisations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognise a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?
An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognise a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?
Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
