As it is normal to experience emotional difficulties during life, counselling is one way of supporting you at such times. Some of the ways that couples therapy can work include, identifying toxic relationship patterns and helping couples to work on changing these, bringing a new perspective to issues and helping couples to understand each other's perspectives, finding new ways to resolve conflicts, building trust and improving communication. Most importantly, providing a safe space for both partners to work through their issues.

Asking for help can be hard. You want someone to listen to you, but find the vast listings of counsellors available can make your head spin! My approach is simple. I have a passion for helping individuals and couples reach their full potential. My aim is to help you find a positive outcome no matter what the problem is. No matter how deep you feel you have sunk, there is always a way back up. I use common sense in my approach and trust that it is the counselling relationship, not ‘psychobabble’ that will prove fundamental to the counselling process. It is completely possible for you to feel so much better than you do right now!

Hello, and welcome. I am a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapist. For 25 years I have mainly worked with children and teenagers, but I also welcome working with adults. It can be difficult to understand our own emotions, especially if we are young, but working with a therapist can enable us to develop an emotional vocabulary and begin to understand our feelings and how they are preventing our wellbeing. Often we become overwhelmed and end up suppressing our emotions until eventually they become too difficult. Therapy provides a safe space to explore these feelings and build communication skills and emotional resilience.

Do you have emotional or psychological issues that have been holding you back, maybe for longer than you care to remember? Do you wish to take back control of your life? If the answer is 'yes' this can be your future. I offer a non invasive solution based modality in a calm, safe and secure environment. I also offer a more conventional integrative counselling too, having been very fortunate to learn from someone with 25 years experience in the field, of what works and what doesn't. My own work and personal experience have confirmed this and I wish to share my knowledge and success with you. Feel free to call and find out more.

My particular interest lies in guiding and encouraging people towards self-actualization and the integration of their fullest potential in whatever sphere of life they are engaged. This process may be seen as a journey, which we share together for at time and requires only ‘the willingness and the courage to be’. To participate joyfully in life is the goal at the heart of psychosynthesis therapy and coaching – and its achievement often comes in unexpected ways. We focus on developing your potential at all levels of being - body, feelings, mind and spirit - and on your deeper centre of identity as the source of true relationship.

I offer EMDR and EMDR Intensives, CBT and Couples Counselling therapy and the aim is to help you to regain a sense of wellbeing and enjoyment in your life. During the initial assessment we will work together to understand your main problems, what is keeping you 'stuck' and then agree on an individualised treatment plan to help you move forward with clear treatment goals. CBT is an effective treatment that can help you in the here and now and EMDR is useful for getting to the root of the problem. I find that both work well, in different ways to bring about an improvement in emotional and physical health.

We are all able to agree that our physical health is variable, but it may be much harder to admit that our psychological health is in constant flux. All too often, we find ourselves buying into the idea of the "stiff upper lip": that "mental health issues" affect only other people - and "weak people", at that! It can be very daunting, therefore, to recognise that we need help and then to take steps to find a professional who will help things improve. I understand those concerns, because I've been there: and I also have experience of the positive effects of psychotherapy - from both sides of the consulting-room!

I am an integrative counsellor with a passion for helping my clients grow in understanding of themselves and others, working together with them to bring about healing and change. I place my clients at the centre of their therapy, giving them autonomy and choice. I see my role as journeying with my clients as they bring the issues that are troubling them. We will work together to find answers. I seek to use different counselling approaches, like tools in a toolkit, that best fit with each client. I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is the fundamental ingredient for change and growth to take place.

My path to becoming a psychotherapist and Jungian analyst has not been a straight line but a winding, often painful journey through the depths of my own suffering. Before I ever sat with another person in the therapist’s chair, I spent years confronting my struggles with mental illness—particularly addiction and eating disorders. These experiences weren’t just difficult chapters in my life; they were initiations into the world of the psyche, and they have profoundly shaped how I practice, how I listen, and how I hold space for others.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
