Life can be extremely challenging, particularly in these current strange times! Anxiety and depression are more prevalent than ever at the moment. As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon a number of theories and styles to support you in therapy enabling me to work in the best possible way to suit your needs. However, despite these different approaches, it is the relationship which has been found to be the most important factor in facilitating change. I provide a warm, non-judgemental and empathic relationship, which is based upon trust and sensitivity, to enable you to explore concerns from the past, present or future.

My passion and purpose in life is to challenge my own mind and passing that knowledge and experience on, helping you to do the same and ultimately feeling able to handle anything that happens in life, even through difficult times. Issues such as anxiety, depression , stress, fears, etc. are quite common in these times and together we may be able to help you with strategies and clear understanding at a deeper level, enabling you to progress.

Life can sometimes be difficult and we may find ourselves struggling and feeling anxious, depressed and unconfident. We may find ourselves battling with the feelings evoked by loss, due to bereavement, relationship breakdown or even the children leaving home. Counselling is not a magic cure, but talking to an empathic, skilled therapist can help; fostering both the processing of difficult feelings and resilience to better deal with what life throws at us, enabling us to move forward. The effect of just being listened to by those who have hitherto struggled to be heard can be both powerful and empowering.

People seek therapy for different reasons and at different stages of life. Usually therapy is sought when stress has outweighed the ability to cope, or usual ways of coping have become less effective. Common reasons for seeking therapy include work stress, relationship problems, anxiety, worry, low self-confidence or depression . Some people will have experienced feelings of distress for many years before feeling able to seek help.

As well as being a professional therapist I have spent many years living with a family member suffering from a severe eating disorder, anxiety, depression and self-injury and know the huge impact this can have on family life.
I have spent many years working with young people and adults who experience various distressing and sometimes debilitating, psychological challenges. These include Eating Disorders, Depression , Anxiety, Self-Injury and many other psychological concerns. My work with you will focus on helping you understand the causes of your distress, and then working with you to develop alternative ways of coping and thinking that significantly reduce your unhappiness and increase your control over your life. I work collaboratively with the clear objective of helping you through the therapeutic process at a good pace, but always at your pace.

This is also effective with General Anxiety, Panic attacks, Depression , Stress, Phobias, Sleep problems, Chronic pain, Body dysmorphic disorder, Medically unexplained symptoms, Addictions, Low self esteem, Performance anxiety and Attachment disorders.
I offer EMDR, CBT and Couples Counselling therapy and the aim is to help you to regain a sense of wellbeing and enjoyment in your life. During the initial assessment we will work together to understand your main problems, what is keeping you 'stuck' and then agree on an individualised treatment plan to help you move forward with clear treatment goals. CBT is an effective evidence based treatment that can help you in the here and now and EMDR is useful for more deep rooted or attachment based difficulties. I find that both work well, in different ways to bring about an improvement in emotional and physical health.

I support people to make positive changes so they can heal, thrive and live fulfilling and meaningful lives. Its time to become the person you have always wanted to be! Discovering what is important for you as an individual and learning to identify and use your inner resources to cope in times of stress, anxiety, bereavement, depression and emotional upheaval such as divorce, redundancy or retirement are just a few of the benefits of counselling. Often just talking through a traumatic experience or difficult feelings with another person can be incredibly therapeutic and will empower you to reach your potential.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
