Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counselling in Ipswich
Beginning therapy can feel difficult, especially if you have been carrying things on your own for some time. Many difficulties we experience are understandable responses to painful, overwhelming, or challenging life experiences. Therapy can offer a space to slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and feel supported in understanding yourself and finding new ways to move forward.

With a Master’s in CBT and Psychodynamic Counselling, I tailor therapy to your needs—combining practical strategies, deeper insight, and ACT principles like acceptance and values-based living to help you build resilience and move forward with confidence.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck or struggling to cope? I offer a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings and begin creating a life that feels more meaningful to you. Together, we’ll identify the changes you want to make and develop practical tools to help you sustain them. Therapy is about understanding where you are now, how past experiences have shaped your journey, and discovering choices that can lead to real change - choices that may have felt impossible before.

I like to work with my client's own resources their strengths, qualities, and natural abilities so Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) along with Solution Focus Therapy is helpful here.
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Usually, they've tried to deal with their issues and problems by themselves and managed to get by or cope. Sometimes, these burdens feel too much to bear and what used to work no longer does. If you are feeling stuck, powerless, and exhausted maybe counselling can help. "You can not heal what has not been revealed" as the saying goes - so being in an environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings without humiliation, shame, or guilt is the first step in ridding yourself of the burdens that are holding you back.

I specialise in mindfulness informed approaches to therapy - specifically acceptance and commitment therapy, ACT.
I aim to work with people who wish to re-orientate their lives in the direction of their values - towards what gives them a sense of meaning and purpose. Having a clearer idea of what really matters helps people motivate themselves - even to the extent of accepting the difficulties it may entail - to either change or persist in behaviours that will move them in their own valued directions. This trans-diagnostic approach can be powerfully effective in dealing with the pervasive problems of stress, anxiety and depression and other chronic issues where rigid patterns of avoidant behaviour have developed.

I work with people struggling with anxiety, difficult relationships, stress, low mood, trauma, low self-esteem, loss, and adjustment to physical health conditions. I value working with clients to develop insight into patterns of problematic thinking and behaviour, and understand where these may have arisen from. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
