I work with clients who may be struggling with low self confidence, anxiety, and loss.
With the many unexpected twists and turns that life can take, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed and lost amongst it all. It can feel that in trying to work through life's many challenges we have forgotten our sense of who we are and lost our confidence in the direction our life is taking. We might seem to be a doing a good job of keeping everything going on the surface, but deep down there is a sense of being out at sea with no solid ground to stand on. This can feel a very isolating and bewlidering experience.

I have been able to support children and young people going through various issues including trauma from the impact of a family member's substance use, anxiety, anger, domestic violence, abuse.
Hi, I'm Liz and I work with children and young people at Jacaranda Therapy as an Accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist. Childhood and adolescence can be really difficult for a number of reasons, and play therapy and creative arts counselling is an amazing way to help young people explore and express their emotions in a safe space, and find healthy coping mechanisms to help them in the future so that they can thrive and have the best outcomes possible. I use an integrative, holistic approach where young people have a choice of mediums to use including paint, sand, lego, clay, puppets, role play, sensory activities, books.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to turn, life can feel very overwhelming and exhausting. It can be lots of wee things or a big life change and sometimes we just can’t put our finger on it. What we do know is that we’ve had enough, we want to enjoy life and relationships and bring more lightness and laughter into the everyday. Maybe work is getting us down or family and relationships. How good would it be to feel more at ease? In therapy we can explore together to find a way through the fog.

I specialise in helping people who struggle with anxiety, overthinking, emotional intensity, and self-doubt.
Therapy with me isn’t about forcing yourself to stay calm or “think positively.” It’s about understanding what your thoughts and emotions are trying to tell you, and gently helping you move through what’s underneath. Because overthinking isn’t just a mental habit. It’s a sign of unprocessed emotion, unmet needs and an inner voice that’s ignored for too long.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
