Life brings a wide range of experiences that can feel overwhelming. This can sometimes leave us feeling as though there is nowhere to go to consider these feelings. Therapy offers a space that may help with an understanding to something going on which relates to the past. Equally our feelings could be recent concern’s leaving it very difficult to know what to do next.

I am passionate about my work and have seen, both in my personal and professional life, the positive impact counselling can have on emotional and physical well-being. I named my service Peace of Mind as that is what I aim to help you achieve. I believe that when our mind is at peace life becomes much easier to navigate and that when we create balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives. I believe that awareness is the first step in healing or changing and so together we will explore whatever you want to bring to therapy and where possible, and more importantly if you want to, we will find solutions to help you enjoy life.

I work in an experiential, compassionate, and open-minded way; offering both support and thoughtful challenge as you face what matters most. My aim is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, and supported enough to take risks when something important needs attention. I believe that it is through our experience of each other in therapy that something hidden and unique can be disclosed, and that is what I aim to find with you.

You might seem like you’re holding it all together, but inside it feels like something is missing. Maybe you’re exhausted from trying to be everything to everyone, or feel disconnected from who you really are. You may be carrying trauma or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. I offer a space where you can soften, feel met, and begin to listen to what’s really going on inside. This is a space for the parts of you that long to be heard.

My clients are reflective, capable professionals who sense that life is not quite as fulfilling as it could be. You might be feeling disconnected, uncertain, stuck, or no longer aligned with the life you are living. Perhaps you are becoming aware of patterns, behaviours, or ways of relating that no longer serve you. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or a quieter sense that something deeper is missing. You might long for greater meaning, authenticity, and connection — both with yourself and with others.

I provide an open, warm and confidential space which enables clients to explore issues, which may have been difficult to deal with alone. I view therapy as an individual process and a journey of self discovery that create an opportunity to become aware of inner conflicts and unhelpful patterns of behaviour. I recognise that there is not one approach to therapy that will suit everyone. Hence, I incorporate integrative approach that means I can adapt therapy to each client and their individual needs. I can offer help and have worked with people struggling with a range of conditions including depression, anxiety or adjustment.

Hello, I'm Hiba, a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) and an EMDR Therapist. If you are reading this, you may be considering whether talking therapy will be helpful for you and what type of talking therapy will be most beneficial. CBT is an evidence-based treatment that aims to teach you how you interpret the world around you, what effect repetitive interpretations have on your emotions and body and what are the resulting behavioural consequences. It aims to teach you practical and tangible tools and techniques so that, overtime, you can experience an empowering process of learning to become your own therapist.

I offer a balanced set of approaches that I can apply to suit your needs. Some people are better helped with insights into their patterns; others may need more skills and again others may feel they do everything right yet they are still unhappy. I strongly believe in trying out new behaviour, as this creates the biggest shifts and minimizes relapse. I integrate lifestyle factors such as nutrition when necessary. When the chemicals aren't right, talking isn't going to lift your mood. We will always explore the source of your issues, relating it to your system, so as to radically release and uproot it and make change more effortless.

Hoarding Counsellors
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
