Hi, my name is Sultana Begum. I am of Bengali origin. Having been raised and lived for over forty years in London, I am a Londoner. I am also British, Asian, a European Muslim, a female, a wife, a daughter, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a colleague, a neighbour and as well as a counsellor, therapist and many more.... I believe who we are and who we think or believe we should be are not one and the same. I believe in today’s complex world of information overload, we can have many identities and that's okay. However, this can sometimes be overwhelming or confusing, leading to frustration and difficulties in living life full

I am a counsellor / psychotherapist who can facilitate helping you overcome emotional pain and unrest. I believe most people experience difficulties in their relationships with others as well as themselves, which is why a good therapeutic relationship is the foundation of the healing process. I do this by building and strengthening the therapeutic relationship between us, creating a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. The ultimate goal would be to let you explore your strategies in managing emotional conflicts, enabling you to move forward. I have extensive experience in this field with very positive results.

I have 12 years of experience working across NHS, Charity and Private settings. I integrate traditional approaches (CBT, ACT, Psychodynamic) with body-oriented approaches (Breathwork, Focusing and Mindfulness) to help clients find deeper, more embodied and longer lasting change in a shorter amount of time than more traditional methods. I am experienced in supporting clients through depressive phases, low mood, anxiety, losses, as well as challenges related to identity, sexuality, self-esteem issues, existential-spiritual experiences and loss of meaning. Coming to therapy might be a very scary and daunting thing to do, you may feel like you ‘shouldn’t’ need therapy. I understand this and I want you to know that you are not alone, from your first steps I will be with you. I can provide a compassionate environment so that you can feel, talk about and reflect on, your own emotional processes. Having gained understanding about yourself and felt your emotions, you will increasingly have the space to reflect and make choices. We all need help from time to time, and you shouldn't be embarrassed for asking for it. I am a down to earth and compassionate person, who understands what it is like to need a boost. In my years I have truly heard it all, and my biggest goal is to empower rather than judge my clients. One of my favourite quotes comes from Marisa Peer who explains that “to be happy you have to make peace with your past, love the present and feel so excited about the future”. No problem is too big to solve and I have witnessed counselling change the lives of so many people and I know I can help change yours too.

My focus in therapy is on a person's life and relationships, past and present. I regard symptoms or behaviour patterns as expressions of distress connected to life circumstances. My style is fairly active, but I'm careful to listen and check what I have heard. I pay attention to a person's narrative, including successes as well as difficulties. I am happy to share knowledge that might help my client or point to resources. Most of my work is relatively short term (12 sessions or less). Typically I start off with a questionnaire which includes client ideas about the goals of our work together.

An Experienced NHS counsellor. As a counsellor I will never pretend to know what it is like to be you and in your shoes. What I can say is this: that I will be with you, and we will explore your world together, to truly understand your experience. This is why, you and your experience, will be the centre of our endeavour. You might be afraid of this journey, and you might not always like what you might find. The journey may be scary at times, and you may cry a few tears. However, you must know this: that you will never be alone on this journey. We will trek together.

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to therapy that helps clients identify their emotions, learn to explore and experience them, to understand them and then to manage them. Emotionally Focused Therapy embraces the idea that emotions can be changed, first by arriving at or 'living' the maladaptive emotion (e.g. loss, fear or shame) in session, and then learning to transform it. Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples seeks to break the negative emotion cycles within relationships, emphasizing the importance of the attachment bond between couples, and how nurturing of the attachment bonds and an empathetic understanding of each others emotions can break the cycles.
