I'm Jay, a practitioner who celebrates authenticity, creativity and individuality. Starting therapy can be overwhelming, especially when life asks so much of us. My goal is to create the very space that you are seeking, where you are genuinely seen, understood and held. As a late diagnosed AuDHD individual, I am well aware of the struggles we face on a daily. Masking, people pleasing, anxiety, anger and frustration towards the world, overwhelm from the demands of life, feeling othered and shamed from the messages we too often receive.

Life can sometimes be difficult. There may be times when we find ourselves experiencing stress, anxiety, panic, or struggling with extremely low moods or bouts of depression. Maybe you find yourself struggling with life's difficulties, often feeling isolated and alone, believing that there isn't anyone you can turn to, including work colleagues, friends or family. Maybe past experience has taught you not to trust anyone with your feelings. Or maybe you find yourself believing that no one truly understands what you are going through.

Hello, I'm Matthew. Sometimes it can be too difficult to face things and attempting to escape them can cause more issues. I’ve been there, and I decided to train as a therapist and dedicate myself to helping other people who are struggling — I know that things can get so much better, no matter how bad they seem.

Therapy offers an important step in discovering the world around us and finding our place in it. For some people, coming to therapy is a big step. It can take courage to identify a need to heal, recover or progress. My approach aims to ensure that you feel safe in the knowledge that you can trust the therapeutic process. Maintaining the core values of empathy, unconditional positive regard for you as well as congruence (being authentic), I also use other modes of therapy.

As a counsellor, I have experience working with teenagers, young adults and people of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and substance and behavioural addictions. I believe that counselling can be beneficial to anyone, but it is also a very individual experience and each person will enter counselling with different goals and find different ways in which they achieve those goals. My intention with every client is to build a supportive and non-judgemental relationship in which they can build an understanding of themselves and make informed and conscious decisions to benefit their lives.

I am a psychoanalyst in training and an accredited counsellor.
I offer a safe space in which you can speak and be listened to without judgement or expectation. I encourage you to speak about whatever comes to mind and to follow your thoughts wherever they lead. You may have a diagnosis or have your own words for how you are suffering - that's often the place to start. What we may find is that issues of identity and relationships follow - how you see yourself in relation to those around you now or in the past and possibly how you would like relationships to change in the future.

My clients are adults and adolescents who appear to be coping on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected inside. Many are tired of holding everything together and feel stuck in patterns of stress, overthinking, or emotional reactivity, sometimes without knowing why. They may be sensitive, reflective, or neurodivergent and feel deeply affected by pressure, relationships, or past experiences. They want to feel calmer, more grounded, and more like themselves again, with support that is respectful, paced, and genuinely helpful. They want therapy to improve their lives now and help them move forward.

What a world we live in, hey? So much pain. So much drama, and heartache. Yet, also so much beauty, love, and understanding. There's nothing to do except be here now, and show up fully, living as best as we can. This is where therapy begins. It may be hard work to change your habits, or to stop your thoughts spiralling. However you may find stillness, presence and recovery. No matter what adversity you've been through, I believe that you can grow from it and gain resilience. FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
