At some point in life, most of us long for new ways of being. This can be brought on through a period of depression, anxiety, traumatic past events, relationship problems, or grief and loss. Many of my clients have never seen a therapist before and I recognise that choosing to do so is a big decision. It often comes from a realisation that now is the time to take a pause, to reflect and to invest in oneself. For couples counselling, I know that navigating the complexities of our relationships can be challenging - humans are complex - two of us together is more complex! Having space to talk and be heard is a good place to start.

I have been a counsellor/therapist for the last 18 years. I love my work and I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space so that we can work through difficult and sometimes traumatic experiences. My counselling style is varied as it is very much dependent on the individuals or couples needs and concerns. I have felt honoured to work with those who have been my clients. It is a privilege that I don’t take lightly. Meet with me for an introductory consultation and we can discover the best ways to help make the changes needed to help you on your journey.

I never set out to work with a specific kind of person, however, around 70% of my clients tend to be women aged between 30 and 45. They worry, feel stressed and not good enough. They often find themselves saying 'what if' all the time having lost their zest for life without any knowledge of why! It might be triggered by past traumatic events, the challenges of juggling life, family or work. These feelings might be a new, unexplained experience or they may have been around for decades. Does this sound like you? Even if this doesn't, you may be like the other 30% of people I work with, and you matter too!

Life is tough. The world can be a very harsh and unforgiving place indeed. Above all I work with kindness, acceptance and understanding - successful therapy always depends upon a partnership between you and me, both/all of us working purposefully together to solve the issues that are in your way - let's face it, there is simply not enough of those three qualities around these days. It is never a failure to reach out for help - never. It takes courage. So please reach out: I promise to take your hand, keep you safe, and together we'll walk the path to better days.

I offer both long and short-term counselling to suit individual needs and welcome anyone to make initial contact with me.

Hello, I’m Zoe. I am a play and creative arts therapist based in Peterborough and I see children from 3 to 16. Do you know a child with big emotions? Are these emotions hard to manage? Play therapy can help children process their emotions and make sense of their worlds. I also offer parenting support. I know how hard parenting can be and I’m passionate about offering a holistic service. I am an advocate of therapeutic parenting, playful parenting and attachment play. I like to work with parents to help support the therapeutic process and provide ways to foster co-operation, connection and play.

If you are a straight couple or a same sex couple It is fantastic for me to work with you and show you a different way to communicate which creates safety and connection. It might be that you feel unheard or unappreciated or you may have lost the fun and intimacy in your relationship. Most people want to feel understood and appreciated. When you choose your partner it is because you are attracted to the way they approach life and sometimes life can take us in different directions causing conflicts. Our own defences seem to block our partner from being able to reach us.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
