I have over 8 years' experience helping adults through grief & loss, health issues, low self-esteem, anxiety, low mood and trauma.
Life can be overwhelming when anxiety, depression, grief or trauma take hold. I understand how isolating these experiences can feel, and I provide a compassionate space where you can feel heard, supported and understood without judgment, where you don’t have to put on a brave face or worry that your thoughts and feelings don’t make sense. I’m a counsellor with personal experience of anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, grief and ADHD, which inspires my work. I will walk beside you with compassion and empathy, and together we will find a solution to navigate life’s challenges and reconnect with your inner strength.

There was a time when I sat where you may be sitting now, wondering whether counselling could help. When I first sought therapy, I was struggling with work pressures, relationships and uncertainty about the future. What I found was a safe space to be heard without judgement, and that experience eventually led me to become a counsellor. Today, I offer a warm, confidential space for clients to explore life's challenges. I am also a practising supervisor. While I work with adults of all ages, I particularly enjoy working with young people, whose resilience and potential give me hope for the future.

Issues I work with include, but are not limited to: Anxiety, Assertiveness, Bereavement, Depression, Existential Issues, Identity Issues, Phobia, LGBTQ+ Issues and Low Self-esteem.
Sometimes life’s challenges can feel like too much to handle alone. At those times it can help to have someone professional to talk to in confidence - I offer an understanding, supportive space in which we can work through lifes challenges together. My approach to psychotherapy is both affirming and challenging; supporting you to feel valued and heard whilst enabling you to move past avoidance and fear.

Hi I'm Dave. Thank you for stopping by. I’m sorry if you’re struggling at the moment. Life can be hard at times and sometimes, the things that used to make us happy don’t any more. Sometimes it can be hard to cope and you may feel lost, unseen, unheard, anxious or depressed. Believe it or not, you are doing the hard bit right now. By looking for and asking for help, this is the first step to you taking back control of your life. This is you making the decision to change. Therapy like life, can be challenging but it can also be rewarding.

In my practice I currently work predominantly with issues around relationships, intimacy, anxiety, loneliness and isolation, self-esteem, domestic and sexual violence and issues around eating, stress and burn-out and a more general unease around existence.
Are you looking for someone to talk to but wonder what it will be like to tell someone you don't know about things that worry you and possibly cause you anxiety? Are you wondering about your relationships, about the dynamics, the love you feel or do not feel, trust and safety?I promise that within the safe and confidential boundaries of a therapeutic encounter I offer the opportunity to discuss and explore your feelings and help raise awareness of what it means to be 'you', both within relationships and on your own.

Navigating today's world doesn't get any easier, does it? Social media tells us how to look and feel and yet many of us can end up feeling shamed and inadequate. We may have goals we want to achieve yet it's all too easy to feel discouraged, out of control, and feel we will never get there. Sometimes the only thing we feel we can have control over is our eating or other addictions. But this usually leads into a downward spiral. What my clients have found is that by joining me in a course of psychological therapy they can unravel the twists and turns they have found themselves in.

Therapy has the exciting potential to support deep understanding and change. The reasons that people give therapy a try are uniquely subjective. Initially perhaps there is a wish to try something new and understanding starts from hints, clues and hunches. Especially in group therapy you come to know yourself in ways you didn't before, through reflecting with others on experiences in and out of the group. Group therapy is nothing mystical and can lead to better use of intuition as a tool aiming towards creativity within self and in relationships.

Therapy means different things to different people. For some, it's about changing a particular behaviour or learning to better manage emotions. For others, it's a space to unpack experiences and gain deeper understanding. Sometimes it's all of these—or something else entirely. My strength lies in helping clients explore, reflect and make sense of their inner world. I aim to create a space that’s safe, accepting, and non-directive, so we can work together to understand why you feel, think, or behave the way you do. Through insight, we can uncover new ways of relating to yourself and others, helping you move toward the life you want.

Many of us grew up before people talked much about mental, emotional and relational fitness (in some cultures, it’s still not talked about). We've had caregivers and authority figures with their own unhealed wounds, limiting their ability to support our development and model healthy life skills. Add in societal norms that overvalue intellectual and economic achievements, various forms of systemic and culturally sanctioned oppression, lack of awareness of neurodiversity ... Is it any wonder that many of us are left with a kind of psychological malnutrition, some wonky beliefs, and a lot of shame and guilt and mean voices in our head?

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
