There may be times in life where you feel that you are on your own, and you put a brave face on because you don't want to burden others for fear that they won't understand what you're going through.
The type of counselling I provide is grounded in Psychodynamic roots, which means we not only explore what has initially brought you to counselling, but also your past history. This means we'll gently explore your childhood relationships and experiences, to see if any links arise which may be unconsciously impacting your present situation.

I provide online therapy sessions working with adults over the age of 16 who might be struggling with a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety and low mood.
The key idea behind CBT is that we can get 'stuck' in negative thought processes and patterns of unhelpful behaviour which have a detrimental impact on how we feel. In therapy, we will gently explore how this is impacting your life and consider what the alternatives might be - offering you a way to break the cycle and ultimately live a more meaningful life.

Whilst I am trained to work with a variety of everyday life and mental health problems, there are some I have exceptionally extensive experience in such as anxiety and depression, stress, self-esteem, struggles with faith, and loss.
Hi, I’m Emily. Welcome to the world of counselling, and welcome back if you’ve been here before. It would be a privilege to work with you. I am an integrative counsellor. This means our work will draw on a variety of counselling techniques such as IFS, CBT and creative methods. At my core I practice Gestalt therapy; a relational approach dealing with the 'here and now'. We can discuss any particular interest in a modality during our initial call. I believe the relationship is the most important part of the therapeutic process and so our sessions would be client-lead whilst bringing my authentic self as well.

It's so hard to find the right support, or to even know where to look, so I am glad you are here. Maybe you are struggling with communication in your partnership, you may be single and struggling to connect to your desire, you may have painful sex, erection difficulties, or there has been a life change such as cancer, menopause, endometriosis, bereavement that has caused a change in your life, including your sex life. You may feel judged, scared, and lost. It can be challenging to navigate these things alone. You don't have to.

I work with people who are struggling with different life situations such as addictive behaviours, fertility concerns, alcoholism, chronic illness, depression, anxiety, miscarriage and bereavement and many more.
I work with the present moment, focusing on what you may be experiencing ‘here and now’. Often, we repeat patterns of behaviour/ways of relating to others that become habit. Together we can be curious about these subtle relational moments (that we normally ignore or make assumptions about), and discover more about what may be happening for you personally.

I work with adults who are experiencing Grief, Low Mood, Anxiety, Family or Relationship issues, and low self-esteem.
A genuine human connection is really important for me, and I pride myself on cultivating an authentic space, where you will be met with compassion and non-judgement. Sometimes talking to those closest to us is often not an option, or may not be available to you and it can feel easier to seek support from someone who is impartial to your day to day life. I offer a sense of calm and encourage self-awareness and understanding, working collaboratively to explore your experiences - I want to get to know you, however you present.

I help with many emotional and behaviourl states from anxiety to depresion, and specailse in trauma, life transitions, undertanding core beliefs, and personal growth.
I work with a wide range of clients, those who are “wearing a mask”, facing adversity, struggling with past trauma, loss of agency, identity, or self-destructive patterns. They feel disconnected, reactive, and uncertain about their future. They need a structured approach to rebuild trust in themselves, regain control, and find meaning in navigating their suffering. Their goal is growth, not just recovery. They want clarity, resilience, and a sense of purpose because they refuse to be defined by their past. My therapy focuses on reintegrating the divided self, fostering agency, and helping clients transform pain into strength.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
