Life can feel overwhelming at times: it might be in our relationships, a lack of meaning or purpose, daily struggles or those horrible feelings of anxiety that just won’t go away. We might not be happy but we’re not sure why, we might feel life isn’t going the way we want it to whilst everyone else seems to be doing ok or more than ok. Talking openly and feeling truly heard can be life changing: we can say all those things that keep going round in our heads, the issues that keep coming back time and again, and work towards understanding what’s going on, make changes and find some peace. Isn't that what we all want and deserve?

Sometimes it’s hard to talk openly with friends or family, and you might find yourself wanting a space that’s just for you. It can feel daunting to reach out, especially if you’re used to holding things together on your own. I’m Caro, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor offering warm, compassionate therapy in Exeter, Dorchester, and online. I work with both women and men aged 18+.
Whatever is going on, you won’t be judged here. Therapy with me isn’t about being analysed from a distance or left sitting in silence. It’s a warm, thoughtful conversation where you can be honest about what’s really happening, even the messy parts.

I support adults and young people facing a wide range of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, anger, relationship issues, low self-esteem, neurodivergence, and identity.
You might feel overwhelmed, struggle with anxiety, face life transitions, or even uncertain about what to discuss in therapy. Taking that first step is an act of courage, and I will meet you where you are, with patience, empathy, and respect for your pace. The most meaningful change often begins with a simple act: deciding to speak, even a little, to someone you trust. That small choice can lead to clarity, emotional resilience, and the discovery that you have resources within yourself that you may not have recognised before. I look forward to supporting you, building understanding and emotional strength, step by step.

I specialise in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) along side other integrative therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness and hypnotherapy. The framework my approach is built on is REBT, yet as each of us are different, I integrate the other therapies to suit each individual. Some clients benefit more from rationalising thoughts and beliefs, while some need help getting over the past, and some need help with moving forward. I work with my clients to address issues, create and reach goals, and to help them make the most of everyday life, without the struggles.

Hello, I’m Jo — thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. Deciding to reach out for support can feel like a daunting step, but it's also an incredibly important one, and I’m glad you’re considering it. I work to provide exactly that — whether it’s in-person, over the phone, or via video — so you can access support in the way that feels right for you.
I’m trained in a range of counselling approaches, which means we can shape the therapy around your individual needs, rather than trying to fit you into a one-size-fits-all mod

Are you feeling anxious,
overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to shift no matter how much you try to think your way through them?
Understanding can help, but it doesn’t always change how things feel day to day.
You may have already tried to work things through on your own, but still feel stuck.
In our work, we look at the patterns behind how you feel. Not just why they’re there, but how they continue to affect you.
Talking therapy can help you explore and make sense of your experience. I also draw on CBT and EMDR, which work more directly with patterns, behaviours, and past experiences.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
