My clients are at the heart of every session, creating a welcoming, safe and relaxed atmosphere where communication can flow freely and openly. The most important thing is that you are comfortable, at ease and feel able to talk. I aim to help you see your challenges more clearly and to face the problems with less anxiety and tension. It can be an opportunity to think and speak your truth without fear of judgement. I am trained to incorporate techniques associated with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Guided Visualisation, Psycho-dynamic Therapy and Transactional Analysis amongst others into my work.

It's natural to feel a little bit hesitant or nervous when looking for someone to talk to. It's a big step.  If you're reading this, you've already made that step into looking into your options, that's something in itself.  When, or if, you feel that you are ready to contact someone, know that I hold a safe space and a listening ear. Whether you are looking for your first experience of counselling, or perhaps you have had sessions with another therapist and are looking to start a new chapter. Feel free to get in touch and we can have a relaxed conversation regarding your hopes and expectations that may surround counselling.

You might be concerned about your child for a number of reasons. The stress of life, Depression Anxiety Trauma or behavoural issues are all signs that something is needing attention. Parents need to understand their children and to respond in ways that might be more effective. Giving children space to express and communicate from their own perspective can also be of help. I have many years experience of working in the NHS in CAMHS and want to be able to reach those who are not offered a service or where the wait is very long.

Navigating the adolescent years can be more challenging for young people with a chronic illness because of the changes taking place in the brain and body.
I'm Holly, a clinical psychologist who works with 12 to 24 year olds with physical health challenges. Our physical health and mental health are closely linked, so living with a visible or invisible illness can also impact on our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Thoughts like 'it's not fair', 'why me?', 'I wish it would go away', are normal, but can cause extra suffering on top of physical health challenges that are not going away. A fear of the dentist or needles can stop you getting the treatment or vaccinations you need. I can help you find ways to manage these challenges and get on with living your best life.

I am currently meeting via Skype/Zoom or telephone. If you want to commence and are worried about CV-19 please do contact and we can make arrangements. We can all experience difficult and painful times and life some sometimes feel hard to manage, often leaving us feeling alone and afraid, feeling that we need some support and understanding from a professional. My practice is to work alongside people in order to help them gain some insight and understanding about their difficulties as well as feel supported and heard. Depression, anxiety, loss and separation are some of the more difficult issues we come up against in life.

Teen Counsellors
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Honiton and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
