I work in Honley, Huddersfield and Leeds. So you want to let go of the past and move on, get some clarity, gain independence and freedom, find contentment and meaning. You’re struggling with questions like; Who am I? What’s the point? Why am I so unhappy? How do I change? I can help you find out who you are, where you’re going, find purpose, learn to live again, assert yourself in difficult relationships. Face and deal with that difficult stuff you’ve been avoiding that won’t let go of you. I've helped many people get over depression and anxiety , bereavement and problems at work.

A few of the issues I come into contact with regularly are: Relationship issues, Anger, Stress, Bereavement, Loss, Anxiety , Depression, Sexual, Physical and Emotional abuse, Identity, Sexuality, Addiction, Self-harm, suicidal thoughts, PTSD.
My name is Sharon. I understand that choosing to contact a therapist can be difficult. Making the first contact can be a daunting experience due to the number of therapies available, along with the uncertainty of which therapy will work best for you. As an integrative therapist, we will explore this together on our first consultation and agree on the best way forward for you, to ensure your psychological and emotional growth. Therapy will be created for your individual needs, with a clarity of what you can expect to achieve. The path you wish to take towards fulfilment will be with me being there with you every step of the way.

Life can feel overwhelming and daunting. At times we can feel we are being swept along by events, sometimes stuck and unable to move. Sometimes we have an idea about how we want to change but struggle to make those changes a reality. Sometimes we feel we are failing, not good enough. Quite often we feel these things but try to carry on without sharing that with anyone and feel lost and alone. All of these experiences are familiar to me and to the people I have worked with. I believe in creating a safe space where people can explore those experiences and find confidence in meeting them and moving forward on their own terms.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
