I work with you; your experiences, feelings, concerns, anxieties, challenges, hopes, and potential. My approach helps you to recognise when feelings are out of balance with experiences and make changes accordingly. My work aims to help you find a way that you can understand and use to navigate life's challenges through working relationally to better understand your own potential. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor I worked in executive and leadership positions helping me to understand the struggles and stress associated with a demanding and insecure workplace.

Katherine's private practice offers support for a range of mental health challenges such as disordered eating, anxiety, depression and trauma.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores how you think about yourself, the world and other people. CBT therapy typically ranges between 12-20 weekly sessions. Despite being a 'talking' therapy, CBT is a 'doing' therapy. Meaning that in between sessions you will be undertaking key takeaway tasks, which will move you closer towards your therapy goals.

For anxiety and low self-esteem I would usually suggest starting with 8 sessions and we would work together to understand what holds you back from feeling more relaxed and self-assured.
In an ideal world, we would feel unconditionally loved and accepted, free to be openly ourselves, able to develop and maintain meaningful relationships and eager to explore the world around us. The reality is that many of us have had challenging experiences in our lives and we carry inner hurts and wounds. My aim is to help you explore these, recognise their impact and manage the associated difficult feelings and thoughts. I offer a confidential space and a calm presence in which you can explore any personal issues free of judgment and we will work together to help you implement the changes you seek.

I offer a safe space where you can be yourself and explore any fears and anxieties that may be stopping you from enjoying life.
Are you feeling that things around you are too much or that suddenly you cannot cope with life as you used to? Do you find yourself stuck or in the same situation over and over? I know the feeling of being paralized. I personally find it very difficult to ask for help when I'm in a bad place, and to show my vulnerability to others... I don't want to feel judged and I'd like to be encouraged to try and be myself and to talk freely about everything and anything. For me it's vital that my counsellor is really invested in helping me. I invite you to take that difficult first step and let me be part of your journey to get there

depression, anxiety, addictive tendencies, issues within relationships, unhelpful patterns of relating, and they want to feel better.
I work in a client-led way, which means that I do believe that clients are able to hold the steering wheel of the therapeutic conversation with me assisting them in their journey and discoveries, which inevitably happen along the way. This does not mean that I am not active in the process. I am. And I am interested in the influence of the past on today.

People often come to me with anxiety, depression, stress and burnout.
Welcome. You're probably here because you’re a high performer who keeps everything together on the outside. But underneath, you might feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in patterns of overthinking, perfectionism and self-criticism. Perhaps the strategies that once helped you cope aren't working anymore. Or maybe you’ve experienced a recent diagnosis or life change, and now feel uncertain about who you are or what comes next. When these struggles stay hidden, they quickly become isolating and exhausting. But you don’t have to do this alone anymore. Over time, this can impact your confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
