Men's Issues Counselling in High Peak
Are you feeling anxious, depressed, or stressed? Maybe it's pressure at work, a difficult relationship, or a growing sense that something needs to change. You may already know exactly what's wrong but haven't found a way through it yet. Many of the men I work with have spent a long time managing on their own before reaching out. Some arrive with a specific difficulty in mind. Others just want space to think honestly about what's going on, with someone outside their work, family, and friendships.

I qualified as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in England after moving from Romania. Uprooting your life and starting from scratch, reinventing yourself is not easy, but it also provides fantastic opportunities for growth. From my humble beginnings, I now feel so proud and privileged to work in the field of Psychotherapy. Life has brought me many riches, but none as great as those which my clients and supervisees bring every day in my counselling room. Being in a position where I can empower others to improve their relationship with self and others is a true gift.

People often reach out when something in their life feels heavy, confusing or quietly overwhelming. You don’t need to have a clear story to begin. I offer a calm, confidential space where you can slow down, speak honestly, and explore what feels out of step or painful. Much of what shapes us lives below the surface — old patterns, shame, grief, relationships, the body’s responses. Therapy is a place to bring these into conversation, gently and at your pace, so that new understanding and possibilities can begin to emerge.

Accepting that you need the help of someone else can be hard. Making the decision to attend counselling can be even harder. Partners, peers and family may not understand, you may feel like you've failed somehow, you may feel like you are not enough. This is far from the truth however.
Attending counselling is often the first step on a journey that allows us to confront our difficulties, face our fears, become more self-aware and ultimately take a path that can lead to a better life.

What truly sets me apart is that I’ve been on both sides of the therapy couch. I know what it’s like to wake up with a racing mind, overwhelmed by the thought of facing the day. I know the loneliness of feeling invisible even when surrounded by people. I know the weight of intrusive thoughts and the relentless exhaustion of carrying childhood wounds into adult life. I’ve experienced intensive therapy for anxiety and trauma, and I’ve come through it. This means that when I sit with you, I’m not just relying on textbooks or clinical theory. I meet you with real understanding and absolutely no judgment. I get it, because I’ve lived it!

The reasons we have for seeking therapy are as varied and complex as the people seeking. You may be facing challenges in your life and relationships you wish to overcome. Or want to experience greater creativity, richer relationships, or simply have more ‘good’ days. Within our relationship, I aim to create an environment where you feel comfortable and safe to express, explore and examine your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours both past and present. I am driven to find freedom from the patterns of the past, which existed once to protect us and now may have become self-limiting and even hurtful.

If you're dealing with porn, compulsive sex, or a relapse cycle you can't break, you're in the right place. The pattern keeps coming back because the root has never been touched. Willpower fights the behaviour. My work goes to the source.
Six years working with men 1:1 on this. I've been through it myself and know what it takes to close it for good.
The anxiety, the stress, the emptiness underneath. That is what drives it. Each session we work through your specific triggers using Mind Shifting, clearing what sits beneath each one before moving to the next. You leave each session feeling the difference, not hoping something shifted.

These are the main reasons men come to me for counselling, working online (UK/international) or in-person (south Manchester).

I am a Counsellor based in Manchester offering In person and online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

I'm Jon and welcome to Attached Counselling and Psychotherapy. We can all feel disconnected from the world around us, and even from ourselves. This may be represented in different ways: anxiety, depression, emotional distress, intrusive thoughts or unhelpful behaviours such as substance misuse or aggression. This can place strain on our day to day lives and affect our relationships with others. If this is pattern you recognise - maybe I can help?

I work with many different issues and specialise in working with men's issues, people who live with anxiety, are older adults, grew up in care or are carers needing space for themselves.
Whether you're experiencing anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, or simply need someone to talk to, I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can feel heard and understood.
I have been a foster carer for over seven years, and I also grew up in a fostering family, as my own parents were foster carers. This unique perspective gives me a deep and personal understanding of life in care—both from the viewpoint of fostered children and those who care for them.
Challenges in adult life often have roots in early childhood. By exploring your beliefs and behaviours it becomes easier to navigate everyday life.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
