Sexual Abuse Counselling in Hemel Hempstead
I specialise in working with trauma, abuse (childhood, domestic, and sexual) and the effects of difficult or harmful experiences. I provide warm, direct therapy for people who want to understand themselves more deeply and change long-standing emotional patterns.
I identify the underlying “red thread” in your experience fairly quickly—the emotional themes and relational dynamics that sit beneath what you’re going through—and help bring them into focus in a way that feels clear rather than overwhelming.

Beginning counselling can feel like a significant and meaningful step. I offer a safe, supportive space where we can explore your present experiences alongside past events that may still be shaping how you feel and relate to others. Together, we gently work through what may have been held inside—sometimes outside of awareness, yet still affecting your emotional and physical wellbeing. My aim is to support you in gaining clarity, understanding, and a deeper sense of connection within yourself.
I tailor my approach to your individual needs, drawing on ongoing professional training to support you in developing ways to navigate moments

Every client is an individual. So my sessions are always adapted to fit the clients needs rather then the client fitting into the theory. Clients issues may range from relationship problems to historic abuse no one is the same, life creates curve balls. All personal needs and goals will be discussed and be a very important part of treatment. Most clients come to therapy as they feel they want to change something in their lives or to come to terms with an experience or issue. Many are hoping to resolve issues. Some simply need a safe place to share where they will not feel judged. No problem is too small in therapy.

You can start to find your own truth and a sense of who you really are.

Sometimes life becomes hard and we can become stuck in some difficult feelings. Led by you and working at your pace we will gently hold and explore any issues and difficulties you may be experiencing in your life. My hope is that in offering you my empathy, warmth, and acceptance you will feel that nothing is too small, too big or too awful to talk about. My counselling is person-centred, focusing on the belief that if we are given empathy and unconditional positive regard within an accepting and transparent therapeutic relationship, we all have a tendency towards growth and a capacity to flourish.

Traumatic or overwhelming experiences can be painful to acknowledge, particularly when they don't fit neatly into our understanding of the world. It can feel safer or less confronting to push them away and carry on. Perhaps now feels like the right time to gently bring those experiences back into view.
Together, we can explore what you feel ready to talk about. If you're a survivor, a witness, or supporting someone affected by what has happened, therapy doesn't need to wait until an investigation or legal process concludes. I welcome anyone needing a safe space to heal, and we can begin whenever you're ready.

Right now you may feel desperate, lost, empty, stressed, anxious or fed up. Whatever difficulty has prompted you to seek Counselling does not define who are you are and the journey you want to take in life. Together we will explore your feelings of being stuck, alone or in darkness as you strengthen your own resources to create greater wellbeing, resilience and satisfaction. No person is the same or brings identical experiences but frequent issues I work with include depression, anxiety, loss & bereavement, trauma, suicidal thoughts, work or school stress and relationship tensions. I work with clients aged 13+ and with Couples.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
