We each have the potential for happiness and confidence but sometimes life can feel stressful or relentlessly tough. We may struggle with complex anxiety, have experienced trauma, depression, confusion, fear, anger, grief or feeling stuck. Through counselling it is possible to recover and gain confidence and the skills to move forwards with a greater sense of wellbeing.I appreciate the courage it can take to engage in counselling, and how helpful it is to speak to someone who is not a family member or friend. Through this professional relationship we work together to safely explore and resolve any difficult feelings and experiences.

I guess you're wondering who I can help? Perhaps one of the following descriptions and scenarios fits you: your anxiety and stress levels are so high, you feel like exploding; your self esteem and confidence are so low they're dragging on the ground; you seem always to form the same rotten relationships, or the relationships you have with friends and family feel more like 'Apocalypse Now' than 'Happy days'. Or, perhaps, you have experienced a bereavement and you're struggling to adapt to the new life thrust upon you. If any of these desriptions or scenarios fit you, then I can offer you the support you need to make positive changes.

Outdoor location 1 is 15-20 minutes from Falmouth, Truro & Redruth. Option 2 is Helston. How messy is your bag? Do you feel guilt, shame, anxiety or stress when you sneak a peak? Do you self-attack, self-criticise, self-doubt or self-blame? How about we tip out the contents and look together from a perspective of kindness and compassion, no matter what might be inside? Sifting through at your own pace, looking curiously at your 'stuff'. What leads you to emotional unrest & negative thinking and what will bring forth a sense of certainty, self-assurance & positive thoughts.

I'm Louise and I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor, and a registered member of the BACP. I work in a non-judgemental, warm mannered and confidential way, where we can safely explore the issues that are negatively impacting your well-being, because sometimes our problems can feel too much and too difficult to manage by ourselves. I am here to listen. Counselling can provide you with the space and time to explore how you fit in the world and help you to gain clarity, acceptance and authenticity.

At one time or another, we all need help to examine patterns or behaviours that we would like to change. You may be struggling with your emotions, feeling anxious, depressed and overwhelmed. You may have difficulties in your relationships or feel that you need to process painful experiences from your past. Together we can explore the difficulties you are having and begin to make sense of your experiences at a pace that feels right for you. Starting psychotherapy - especially for the first time - takes courage, but the rewards of self-exploration can be immeasurable.

Hi, I hope your search for a therapist is going well. It can be a difficult process, but it is important to find a therapist who feels right for you. The relationship with your therapist is, on average, more helpful than their training and experience. Person-centred therapy is a relationship. It is not dependent on medical diagnoses, yet can help with all conditions. It is as effective as other leading therapies, but uniquely it puts the client at the centre of the process. There is no 'you should do this'. The questions, and the answers, will come from within during our conversations.

Hello, my name is Tina, Sometimes life can get difficult and finding the right counsellor can be daunting, especially when you want to talk through personal issues. Talking to a counsellor who is empathetic to your situation, who is non-judgemental, trusting and supportive could be just what you need. Life is not always straightforward and may at times seem impossible. Family and friends can help; however, this may not always be possible, and that’s when a counsellor with understanding, warmth and life experiences may be needed.

More than 25 years of practice working with diverse individuals, couples, and groups across a wide range of diagnoses and issues. I offer short/mid/long-term psychotherapy and EMDR. Most of my clients are experiencing, or have experienced, traumatic life events that they struggle to come to terms with. These may be early life events, or later ones, but they negatively impact on their relationship with themselves and/or others. I offer a relational environment, that is co-created, to address these issues, and support my clients to improve the emotional, cognitive, and behavioural skills to help them to better manage their life.

As an integrative psychotherapist you are the complete focus, I use a flexible approach to fit your needs. I work with all ages & specialise in Trauma work ( past or present, complex or PTSD).

I would like to thank you for taking the first step to getting some help and support with the challenges that you are facing at the moment. Life can be hard sometimes and seeking the support we need when we need it takes courage and strength. Its important to acknowledge that you can’t change what’s going on around you, until you start changing what’s going on within you. I can help you heal, resolve issues and move forward towards being your true self.

I specialise working with couples, families, parents, children and young people. Relationships can sometimes be difficult, and counselling can help to unpick what is happening to those involved. Maybe your child is struggling and failing to live life to the full, maybe anxiety is holding them back or they are lashing out at those around them. Adult relationships can also experience difficulties such as conflict or miscommunication. Having a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to help explore and make sense of what is going on can help individuals and couples find resolve and move forward in their lives.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
