With a holistic approach to healing informed by art therapy, emotional freedom techniques (EFT, or tapping), attachment theory, parts work and mindfulness, I guide people to tap into their energy and intuition to heal.
I specialise in helping people dealing with anxiety, stress or who are recovering from difficult life experiences to heal and move forwards in life. If you feel like therapy which offers more than simply talking would serve you, then I am glad you are here reading this. In addition to offering a safe and non-judgemental space for you to speak freely, I also offer tools which you can use to reflect and heal. Whether you would like to work through a specific trauma, fear, phobia, feeling or experience, or you would like to work slowly through many issues, I am here to help.

People often first come for counselling when they begin to experience symptoms of low mood and anxiety such as disturbed sleep, low levels of motivation and energy, or increased rates of irritability and tension which just don’t seem to shift. These symptoms could be related to a significantly upsetting event, or they might be linked to a background of adversities and difficulties. Either way, you might be hoping to improve your mood and to reduce feelings of anxiety or panic, to regain a sense of confidence and self esteem, and to feel more energised and motivated. People often say they want to get back to their old self again.

I work in a way that’s person-centred, integrative, inclusive and relational. I always place your needs and values at the centre of our therapeutic work, while embracing your freedom and autonomy. I take an affirmative approach in encouraging you to bring any and all parts of your unique self; I take care to not pathologise or criticise you. I work very relationally, and I believe therapy can only be effective if there’s a strong therapeutic relationship at the heart of it. I’m interested in exploring what goes on in the therapeutic process and how this may mirror dynamics you’re experiencing in your wider life and relationships.

Hi, I am Clare, a compassionate, warm, friendly, and professional integrative relational psychotherapist. I work alongside clients in a respectful, empowering, non-judgemental way, to deepen understanding, identify choices and enable change. I believe that our early relationships and experiences have a profound impact on how we feel and behave, and on what we believe about ourselves and the world around us. Having counselling will enable you to rediscover yourself in a safe place, where you can go at your own pace and allow yourself to release your true emotions that you may have locked away but are causing anxiety or distress.

Hi, I’m Gaby, and I'm here to support you to find a creative way through your challenges. Hi! I'm Anna, a qualified counsellor based in Stockport offering face-to-face and online sessions. Our brains all work in different ways and I think it is so important that counselling reflects this. I am able to incorporate different resources like co-operative board games, video games and other creative approaches to enhance sessions for those who want to. I can offer you a space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement or pressure. I draw upon various counselling models to tailor my approach to you as an individual; there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy.

Adults can benefit through being playful in art therapy, which allows you to learn more about yourself through metaphor and symbolism.
My art therapy studio is a relaxing, cosy and creative space where you can explore a wide range of art materials and sensory toys to help with emotional regulation. I encourage everyone to be creative and to try out something new. But don't worry! You do not need to be good at art, just willing to explore the materials provided.

I became interested in Youth and Community work when I was a teenager and started to work for Manchester Youth and Community Education Service I quickly realised that most of the young people and adults I engaged with, needed the support of a trusted adult who they could confide in and talk to about a whole range of issues. This lead me onto my counselling path and in 1986 I undertook a Certificate in Counselling I have been working with young people and adults in a wide range of settings and in particular people who are Neurodiverse/SEND and have faced Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Each client is unique, and I welcome their thoughts about the direction in which they would like their therapy sessions to take. I am an approved therapist for Anxiety UK and am experienced in working with clients struggling with anxiety and depression. This can range from mild stress and low mood to a feeling of being completely debilitated

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
