I use a combination of CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) approaches, which are both types of therapy that are effective with a wide range of issues.
Hi, I am Lindsey, a BABCP accredited CBT therapist based in Uckfield, East Sussex and online. Experiencing times when we feel low or anxious is normal. In fact it’s a great sign that we’re human! There are times in our lives though when how we are feeling gets in the way of living the life we want. This may be in response to challenging or traumatic events that we’ve experienced in life but not always. Even some of the best moments in life can give rise to anxiety.

I understand how hard it can be trying to decide which counsellor is right for you and to find a counsellor who you can trust and confide in and feel comfortable enough to be completely open with. We are all drawn to different counsellors and finding the right match is really important. It needs to be someone who you can relate to, who gets you, who listens to the detail and tries to help you uncover and understand how you are feeling in a patient and gentle way. I believe that establishing and building trust is key for the counselling relationship to develop.

My clients often struggle with unprocessed trauma, intertwined with shame, guilt, anxiety and depression. They need a safe space to explore trauma without judgment, develop healthy coping strategies, and process shame to rebuild self-worth. They want to break free from destructive cycles, feel worthy of love, rebuild relationships, and find purpose. They seek transformation - not just symptom management but fundamental healing to reclaim their life beyond addiction, lived experience and/or any related pain, grief, loss, shame, anxiety, depression or anger.

I draw on models including ACT, CBT, CFT, DBT and MBCT.
It can be overwhelming finding the right therapist and therapeutic approach for you. I aim to make the process of therapy clear and comprehensible, starting with building a shared understanding (formulation) of your difficulties and setting goals. Over the last 14 years I have worked across the NHS and independent practice, supporting adults and young people with mood difficulties (including anxiety and depression), adjustment to physical health conditions, and eating disorders. My clinical experience and training, together with your self-knowledge, is our starting point for therapeutic work.

I have worked over 25 years with adults, adolescents, couples, and families who feel stuck in repeating emotional or relational patterns shaped by trauma, loss, attachment wounds, anxiety, depression, or family conflict. Many struggle with relationships, identity, emotional regulation, or life transitions. Using an attachment based approach, informed by RECBT, systemic family therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and psychoanalytic thinking, I offer a consistent therapeutic relationship where clients build insight, process difficult experiences, strengthen resilience, and create healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

I am especially interested in how earlier experiences, attachment patterns, and current demands shape emotional wellbeing, relationships, and coping in the present. I offer psychologically informed, evidence-based support aimed not only at symptom relief, but at deeper understanding, resilience, and meaningful change.

I draw on person-centred, CBT, and ACT approaches — adapting to what you need rather than applying a fixed model.
You might be here because something has shifted — a loss, a transition, a quiet sense that the life you're living doesn't quite feel like yours. Or because anxiety has taken up permanent residence and you're exhausted by it. Or because you're grieving something the world hasn't given you space to name. I work with adults navigating anxiety, grief, life transitions, burnout, and the weight of societal expectations. Together we make space for what's actually happening — not just the symptoms, but what's beneath them — so you can move forward with greater clarity and choices that feel genuinely yours.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
