Sometimes it’s hard to know where to turn, life can feel very overwhelming and exhausting. It can be lots of wee things or a big life change and sometimes we just can’t put our finger on it. What we do know is that we’ve had enough, we want to enjoy life and relationships and bring more lightness and laughter into the everyday. Maybe work is getting us down or family and relationships. How good would it be to feel more at ease? In therapy we can explore together to find a way through the fog.

I specialise in relationship difficulties, adverse childhood experiences, anxiety and depression.
If you have found your way here I appreciate you are reaching out for support. Taking the first step to reaching out to someone; especially a stranger takes courage. Maybe you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, experiencing a life transition: divorce, grief, becoming a parent, children leaving home. Unable to find the strength to cope with change and difficult decisions. Counselling can be a life changing experience; our present struggles and feelings can be a turning point towards a new direction. Counselling is a collaborative task and it is my endeavour to travel alongside you on your journey as you discover new ways to move forward

Whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, or relational difficulties, my services are designed to help you build self-awareness, improve communication, and regain control over your life.
As an Interpersonal Therapist, I have worked with people who, because of a relationship, have slowly lost confidence, have increasingly began to doubt their worth, found themselves second-guessing every decision, and gradually become shadows of their former selves. If we continuously feel unheard, invalidated, or unloved, it creates profound internal turmoil, shaping our beliefs about who we are and what we deserve. It is this circumstance that is the cause of symptoms like depression, low self esteem and other self sabotaging actions. I can help you rebuild self-worth, identify harmful patterns, and develop healthy relationships.

I have experience of working with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, relationship issues, bereavement, traumatic life experiences, shame and self-criticism, low self-esteem and a specialist interest in perinatal mental health and motherhood.
Therapy can be a great tool for restoring life balance and bringing about positive change. It can help you to understand more about yourself, your thoughts, and your emotions. Therapy could be beneficial if day to day life feels overwhelming or if you have difficult life experiences that you feel ready to explore. Perhaps you can be highly critical of yourself. You might regularly experience emotions that feel unmanageable and overpowering OR you may often find yourself entirely disconnected from how you’re feeling. You might want to learn more about yourself and your relationships with others.

My experience has been varied, having worked for the last 5 years with both adults and young people on issues including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, and I have particular experience in working with those who’ve lived through trauma or abuse, and those who are struggling with suicidal ideation or self-harm.
Life is full of unpredictable change and challenges, and we all need support sometimes. I specialise in reconnecting people with themselves, and with their direct experience as a resource for living – supporting them to restore a real sense of balance, connectedness and meaning in their lives. I offer a safe, collaborative space where we will focus on what is most important to you. I will move alongside you with understanding and presence, both supporting and challenging you, while we process what is happening together. Therapy will be a place where all aspects of your human experience are welcomed without judgement.

Many of my clients have previously seen a lot of mental health professionals and are still struggling to cope with their ongoing psychologically symptoms. They have never dared hope that a “normal” life is possible without having to be constrained by the constant chatter in their head. They have put up with many toxic relationships work issues and family issues all in the belief that this is as good as it gets for them. To be able to be in control and manage their psychological symptoms in all situations is the goal of most of my patients which enables them to lead their best life.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
