I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and EMDR therapist with 20+ years of experience. I am also a qualified Gold Standard ADHD assessor for adults. My sessions are structured and encouraging they focus on client's personal goals. Client's are enabled rather than taught to achieve their own individual goal for therapy. Over the years I have worked in various environments including the NHS and have discovered via my client work that therapy can change lives and create possibilities. This is the ethos and mainstay of my client work.

People have counselling for many different reasons. Some will have a particular issue they wish to work through in the short term, some may have been affected by a life-changing event or loss that may need a little longer to come to terms with, others may just feel unhappy, low, sad or angry but unsure why. Whatever it is that is affecting you or leaving you feeling that life is too tough to cope with, counselling can help. It can enable you to understand your emotions more clearly, recognise deeper issues, highlight what you need to take the necessary steps to make changes and move forward with your life.

I work with adults struggling with trauma and PTSD. I offer compassionate and evidence based psychological therapy to help you move forward and make sense of what has happened to you. If you are feeling like you are 'stuck' or 'frozen' after a distressing event (intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, images, nightmares, reliving event) I can work with you to shift this. I can also support people who have experienced multiple traumatic events. I use an integrative approach including Eye Movement Desensitisation Processing (EMDR) to help process the traumatic memories and move forward with your life, feeling safe and connected again.

I see individuals and couples with a variety of needs, ranging from deep psychological and emotional difficulties to a wish to optimize inner resources, life competencies and wellbeing. Distress may arise in response to specific life events, or more generally from difficulties in our private or professional lives. Therapy offers opportunities to be fully heard, to identify obstacles in the way of healing and growth, to generate insights and to develop new life skills. I approach my work with sensitivity to the uniqueness of each individual, and tailor my interventions to best meet their therapeutic goals and sustain positive change.

I work with human beings and that’s really it. There’s no one reason people reach out, sometimes things feel heavy, unclear, or just a bit off. I don’t have a formula, I offer space to help you make sense of what’s going on beneath the surface, especially when it's difficult to put into words.

Looking for a space where you can feel more like yourself? Many of the people I work with are in their 20s, 30s, or 40s, navigating questions about who they are and where they belong. Some are exploring their sexuality or gender identity. Others feel weighed down by anxiety, low mood, or the pressure to meet everyone else’s expectations. My clients often describe feeling disconnected from others, even when they aren’t alone. They may try to over-achieve to please the people around them, while privately struggling with shame, self-doubt, or a sense of being stuck.

When you find yourself at a place where you need to talk about what's going on for you it can be daunting to make contact with a counsellor -  I understand and warmly welcome you to my profile. You may feel like no one around you understands you or knows how to help you, you might feel like you want to share difficult things from your past or you may want to make sense of an experience. Maybe you want to make changes in your life or you just don't know what's happening for you right now. Whatever you're experiencing I offer a space that is safe, non-judgmental and welcoming.

Have you been struggling with intensive emotions? Have you found it difficult to relate to people? Have you noticed that you have a strong fear of being rejected? Have you noticed that you move between extremes -- either liking someone or hating them the next moment? If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes" then mine is the correct Service for you. There is a long queue for NHS treatment for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and I am able to offer the same treatment as NHS offers,

My personal life journey and development as a psychotherapist are rooted in my experience and understanding of the world and the self within it. I have assimilated a rich tapestry of international experience, which has deepened my understanding of diverse cultures, and the unique challenges that come with integrating new values into one’s identity. It also allows me to approach therapy with openness and sensitivity to the intricacies of intersectionality and personal growth. My integrative approach combines elements of several therapeutic modalities, which allows me me to tailor my work to meet the specific needs of each client.

Over the last 14 years I have helped many people achieve a sense of well being, integration and wholeness in their personal & professional life. I can help you achieve the same. Life does not need to be a struggle. The process begins with you taking that scary first step to have an initial session or even just to call me to have a chat. In this first session or chat you can experience me and how I work and if we are a good fit, we can take it from there. I look forward to talking to you.

When we meet I will discuss what sort of therapy will be best for you . I am a therapist who listens with intelligence and compassion, but I am not one who just sits in silence. I am sensitive to how difficult it can be to share personal issues. Sometimes the work will be challenging, but the experience of being heard and understood can be very powerful.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
