I support people to make positive changes so they can heal, thrive and live fulfilling and meaningful lives. Its time to become the person you have always wanted to be! Discovering what is important for you as an individual and learning to identify and use your inner resources to cope in times of stress, anxiety, bereavement, depression and emotional upheaval such as divorce, redundancy or retirement are just a few of the benefits of counselling. Often just talking through a traumatic experience or difficult feelings with another person can be incredibly therapeutic and will empower you to reach your potential.

I work both in-person and online where we can safely explore any issues that you may have in confidence. I strongly believe that everyone can benefit from counselling, provided they have a good connection with their counsellor. That is why the relationship is at the heart of my work. I work with a wide range of people, I am passionate about working with those who identify as LGBTQ+ and those who may be questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Being queer myself, I have a deep understanding of the different struggles and discrimination we face day to day. I am also kink, poly/open relationship friendly.

Something isn't quite right — and you can't quite name it. You're managing on the outside, but underneath there's pressure, exhaustion, or a persistent sense that something important is going unaddressed. I work with adults navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, low mood, life transitions, relationship difficulties, ADHD, and neurodivergence. You don't need to arrive with a clear problem or a label; most of what matters doesn't fit neatly into either. Whatever brings you here, I'm glad you found your way. This is a space to slow down, look properly, and find out what's actually there.

I help people through difficulties, anxiety, disordered eating and relationship challenges. As someone who has engaged in disordered eating I know how hard it can be. Through psychodynamic practices I uncovered why I engaged in these unhelpful behaviours, ultimately leading me to develop a better relationship and response to both. I hope that we can take that journey together working towards creating a life that feels better for you.

Hi, I’m Nova, an accredited CBT therapist working online with lived experience of OCD and anxiety. I know how exhausting it can feel when your thoughts keep looping, driving you to check, seek reassurance, or avoid situations in the hope of easing fear, guilt, or doubt. OCD often targets what matters most to you. Having been through this myself, I understand how real and overwhelming it can seem. In therapy, I provide a safe and collaborative space, built on empathy and understanding.

Trauma and related issues are at the heart of the work we do with most clients. This might be related to clients’ experiences of abuse, loss or attachment. Or as a result of experiencing racial trauma, or the impacts of living in our patriarchal, capitalist, oppressive society on those with GSRD (Gender, Sexual, Relationship Diversity) or other marginalised identities. It might also show up as the manifestation of unprocessed trauma by way of addiction, for example, or maybe in parenting, marriage and other significant interpersonal relationship issues.

Body Image Counsellors
How does body image affect mental health?
Poor body image can influence mental health because it can reduce self-esteem and decrease functioning in other areas of one's life. Negative body image may hinder someone's ability to perform daily tasks, including professional and social responsibilities, because they may feel self-conscious or shame surrounding their appearance; a desire to change one's body as a result of negative body image can also trigger behaviors such as extreme dieting, excessive exercise, or obsessive social media comparison. Poor body image is associated with a number of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, although many people experience negative body image even in the absence of meeting the diagnostic criteria for any mental health disorders.

What does it mean to have a positive body image?
Body image refers to how one internally perceives their appearance and internally "talks" to themself about their body. Positive body image is therefore indicative of a positive perception of one's self and positive internal self-talk that underscores one's strengths. People who have good body image often have higher self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence, and they also often recognise how external factors, such as social media or relationship patterns, can influence body image. While body image can change at different life stages and in response to various triggers, practicing self-acceptance and a body-positive mindset can help maintain a more stable sense of positive body image.

Is body image the same as self-esteem?
Body image and self-esteem are often related, but they are distinct concepts. Self-esteem is a broader term that can be shaped by a number of factors outside of body image, including one's functioning at school or in the workplace; it refers to one's capacity to handle various life challenges. Poor body image can be one way in which one's self-esteem is reduced. Reduced self-esteem as a result of poor body image can cause individuals to feel negative about their appearance, withdraw from social interactions, and/or rely on harmful behaviours as a coping mechanism. A "body positive" approach to body image therapy is therefore often used to encourage a more positive view of one's self and thus encourage better self-esteem.

What type of therapy is best to foster a positive body image?
The type of therapy best suited to improve body image depends on each person, as there is not a single therapy specific to body image improvement. That said, many individuals with poor body image benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy. CBT can be used to help challenge distorted or negative thoughts about one's body, while ACT and mindfulness practices can facilitate a more positive body image through self-acceptance and identification of one's personal strengths. Regardless of treatment type, clients should look for body image therapists who encourage the development of a sense of self outside of their external appearance and help clients reduce unwanted behaviours developed as a result of poor self-esteem, such as dieting or disordered eating patterns.
