This is true for people at all stages of life. I am trained in TA, gestalt and person centred therapy but also use a blend of CBT, CFT, ACT, mindfulness and grounding work.
Hi, my name is Michelle, as a counsellor I believe that every person needs a supportive space to explore their thoughts feelings and challenges without judgment. I believe that feeling safe and heard is really important and is a huge part of the therapeutic journey. we can explore how our mind and body responds to distress and triggers, together we can build a greater awareness of our core selfs, we can explore and understand our responses alongside learning to be kinder and more compassionate to ourselves when things can feel really difficult. I believe in personal growth if we allow ourselves the space change can happen.

We use integrative methods combining Coaching Psychology, CBT, ACT, and schema-informed approaches.
I coach adults who outwardly appear to be functioning well day-to-day but, internally, feel weighed down, stuck or blocked by unhelpful thoughts, feelings or behaviours. Maybe you're dealing with a life transition, you're procrastinating, or your rumination is getting you down. The critical point is that you're not looking for a traditional 'medical' solution. You're not 'ill', you know that if you worked through some areas, you could perform better, reach your potential or just feel more content, resilient, or happy.

This means I can draw on a range of psychological models and tailor my approach to your needs - whether you need someone to sit with you in your pain, help you find acceptance, explore changes in your sense of self, heal wounds from the past, or make positive changes and develop new skills.
I offer a warm and supportive space to feel heard and understood, be curious, process your thoughts and feelings and develop new perspectives. We may explore how the past affects you in the here and now , notice things you tend to do which are keeping you stuck, consider motivations for doing them and perhaps experiment with doing something different.

I feel very passionately about the positive effect that therapy can have upon peoples lives. Over the years I’ve worked with a range of challenges that people can experience. Working through pain or difficulties together is a process I find very rewarding. Often people will arrive being unsure what to expect and feeling apprehensive about what is to come. My approach is to create a welcoming, warm and confidential space where together we can gain an understanding of your situation. I am trained to draw from several therapeutic models so we can find a way forward that suits your preferences and goals for change.

I work with relationship problems, anxiety, depression, self development and esteem and most problems. My aim is to work in a non-judgemental way. I am trained in existential psychotherapy, the principals of which underlie the way I work. In addition I use cbt techniques. I take a creative approach to working with my clients and focus on the relationship before anything else. I believe therapy should be about providing a supportive and compassionate environment, where truths can be discovered and where courage may be required to confront the challenges.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
