Hi I’m Nicola.. I assume if you’re reading this then you or someone you love, is struggling with how life is at the moment and may be looking for change in some way? Sometimes the issue is clear, but other times we might just feel ‘off’ and need a little exploration to figure out what needs to change in order to feel better. I offer a warm, compassionate, and structured approach to therapy, working collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you.

It is so hard to watch your child struggle, and despite your best efforts, remain unsure how to support them. They may have become anxious, withdrawn, or struggling at school. Maybe their moods are unpredictable, or they are stuck in patterns that seem difficult to understand. Perhaps something difficult has happened in the past and you’re wondering if it’s still affecting them. You might feel that you have tried everything but it hasn't worked, leaving you feeling powerless and unsure how to best support. Therapy can help your child make sense of their emotions, process difficult experiences, and regain a sense of control.

Maybe you feel alone, lost, overwhelmed or disconnected. Maybe you want to talk about something specific: addictions, anxiety and depression, bereavements, abuse, trauma, relationship breakdown. Or, maybe you don’t know how you feel, but you just don't feel right. Whatever it is, we will explore together at your pace, either in my peaceful therapy room or online. I can help you to spot patterns of behaviour and to gain more self-awareness. This creates a greater sense of freedom and choice in your life, which can build stronger personal relationships, more self-compassion and lead to positive change.

Why Seek Therapy? Feeling stuck or overwhelmed? You're not alone. Are you feeling down, unsure about your emotions, overwhelmed, or just need someone to listen and understand you? Many people turn to therapy for various reasons, and often the hardest part is overcoming the belief that our struggles are ordinary and we should just "get on with it." But reaching out can make a world of difference.

Hi, my name is Louise and I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I know it’s not easy reaching out for someone to talk to the first time as it can feel quite daunting. Hopefully I can put your mind at ease in providing a safe and empathic place for you to explore your feelings, anxieties or worries, helping you to come to a much happier place.

Free consultation available. My approach blends talking therapy with creative, somatic, and experiential techniques, offering theory-informed ways to understand yourself on a deeper level. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck, noticing that talking alone hasn’t been enough. Perhaps your body holds pain or fatigue, or you feel out of sync with yourself and others. I offer a space where you can slow down and explore what’s happening beneath the surface — not to “fix” yourself, but to develop awareness and a sense of choice, honouring mind, body, emotions, and nervous system.

I work with adults who are outwardly functioning but feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in repeating patterns, often in relationships, intimacy, or their sense of self. My approach is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic, focusing on understanding difficulties at the root rather than offering quick fixes. I work in a client-led, non-pathologising and inclusive way and have extensive experience with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients. I also work comfortably with questions around sexuality and intimacy, including areas people may feel anxious or ashamed about. Sessions in Hove and online.

I work with adults and children and young people. I have a special interest and experience working with neuro-divergence. It may be that you have recently started to understand what makes you who you are, or it may be that you have known for a long time. We can all benefit from a compassionate space to explore our inner experience with another. With children and young people, I offer creative therapies and am very happy to be flexible in approach.

I'm an EMDR Consultant and I offer an initial session where we can discuss your problems, your goals and work out a treatment plan. In EMDR we target specific traumatic experiences and symptoms. A large body of research has found that working at a subcortical level, using EMDR, effectively reprocesses experiences that are stuck in your body and your nervous system. After EMDR you are likely to feel much less dys-regulated.

People choose to start psychotherapy for a variety of deeply personal reasons. You might be navigating challenging life transitions, struggling with anxiety or low mood, coping with the echoes of past experiences, or perhaps feeling a persistent sense of dissatisfaction or disconnection. Sometimes, it's about wanting to understand yourself better, improve your relationships, or find new ways to manage stress.

Couples Counselling will help you to understand your emotions and discover a new intimacy. I talk to couples every day who are wanting more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
