You may appear composed and successful, yet beneath the surface feel an unrelenting pressure, cycles of stress, burnout, or emotion that no longer respond to willpower or routine solutions. Perhaps you’ve achieved much, yet something vital still feels unresolved. You may have tried therapy before, only to find it didn’t reach the depth you needed. I work with individuals who value insight, precision, and meaningful change. My specialisms include trauma therapy, EMDR, executive therapy, and addiction recovery.

Do you feel overwhelmed, unsafe and lonely? Are you finding elements of your life a struggle and don't know where to turn? Can you no longer see the wood for the trees and have lost direction? Many people lose touch with the person they are supposed to be for many reasons and seek to find their true selves again but may just need a helping hand and support along the way. Counselling can be the first step back to removing the barriers which have kept you lost and help you back on the path you were intended to follow.

You may be someone who thinks deeply about yourself and the world, yet still feel stuck. Perhaps you understand your patterns intellectually, but certain reactions, relationships, or ways of coping keep resurfacing. From the outside things may look fine, yet internally something feels conflicted, tense, or quietly out of place. Many of my clients want not just relief, but a deeper understanding of themselves and more freedom in how they live.

I provide a warm, non-judgemental and empathic relationship based upon trust and sensitivity, to help you explore your worries, fears and difficulties so that you may feel equipped to face life with renewed energy and self-compassion.
I have lots of life experience and professional experience - I have a BA in Integrative Counselling (1st) and am BACP Accredited. 'One size does not fit all' in therapy - it is not prescriptive and therefore I aim to understand you and in doing so I can then draw upon different styles of therapy to help you overcome the difficulties that you may be facing.

Some clients only need 6 sessions, to learn techniques to control anxiety or panic attacks, while others may stay on to resolve underlying causes with trauma focused therapy such as EMDR.
I specialise in Trauma and Anxiety reduction, so whether you want help with Post-Traumatic Stress, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, a Phobia, OCD, or GAD I'd be happy to hear from you. I use a blend of Psychotherapy tools, Counselling & occasionally, Hypnotherapy depending on your needs. I believe a one size fits all approach doesn't work in therapy.

You worry a lot.
Many of the people I work with don't arrive describing themselves as someone who's been through trauma. Because sometimes trauma is one clear event. Sometimes it's the accumulation of difficult experiences over time. You don't need the perfect label for it to matter.

Hi, I’m Ed Christmas. I am a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, having trained and practiced integratively since 2018. I offer both online and face-to-face therapy from my studio in Bentley, Suffolk, from the Stephenson Centre in Ipswich, and at the Natural Health Centre in Woodbridge, Suffolk. I have a particular interest in working with clients to help them recognise and address their conditioning and trauma. Often, it is the things that we learned or were told along the way that are problematic - about ourselves, others and the world - about our past, present and future - about our purpose and our identity.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
