In practice, I shape treatment plans to address the unique lived experiences of clients using Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural, Narrative and Somatic therapeutic approaches flexibly focusing on addressing the issues clients bring to therapy.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe we are shaped by our past and present relationships, influencing how we view ourselves, others and our environment. Sometimes this causes distress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, grief and much more. Many clients come to therapy questioning why what has worked for them in the past no longer works for them now. Together we work to understand, find clarity and make meaningful lasting change. I provide professional therapy tailored to clients' individual needs, supporting clients as they move toward their goals at a pace comfortable to them.

I also use Somatic exercises that help to regulate the Nervous System (e.g., Vagus Nerve work, EFT).
Hi, I'm Alex and I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist. Finding a therapist can be really daunting and bring up a lot of feelings and questions. Whether you're coming to therapy for the first time, or whether you've experienced therapy before, finding the right therapist for you is so important, and the connection you can create with your therapist is so influential for healing. In every session, I am always non-judgemental, empathetic and we take everything at the client's pace. In each session I offer a safe space for you as the client, where you can bring your complete, authentic self.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or held back by low self-esteem, feeling misunderstood, you are not alone. I work with adults (18+) who want to understand themselves more deeply, heal, and grow into a more, grounded version of themselves. Clients often come to see me with a sense of feeling overwhelmed, worried, they might struggle with focus, overthinking, sleeping patterns, relationships and want to explore this in relation to their Autism and/or ADHD.  Some clients come not knowing the reasons for their struggles and through the sessions we can explore what might be going on underneath the surface.

Do you feel devastated after an affair, or trapped in the hurt and mistrust that followed? I provide specialist couples counselling for partners facing the hardest challenges - betrayal, sex & intimacy that’s vanished, the same fight on repeat, or the complexities of neurodiverse or poly relationships. By the time people find me, they’ve usually tried everything else. My style is structured, direct, and designed to create change. One couple put it this way: “When all hope was lost, Shan’s help and guidance enabled us to reconnect and be stronger than we have ever been".

I offer gentle therapy and coaching for sensitive adults who have lost themselves through difficult life events, prolonged stress, or years of people-pleasing. When you’ve learned to adapt, stay quiet, or put your own needs aside to feel safe or fit in, you may feel overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or disconnected from your true self and your deeper needs. Together we'll work at the pace of your nervous system, helping you heal old wounds and restore inner balance by reconnecting with your inner wisdom and reclaiming your authentic self. You don’t need fixing, just a supportive space where you can remember who you are.

The thought of reaching out for support can feel daunting. The idea of being vulnerable can feel overwhelming. Facing these experiences, without judgment, with someone impartial, who is trained to listen can be really powerful. Therapy can offer you an insight, or a reframing, that can enable you to make changes or try different ways of approaching things. Gaining greater self-awareness may feel uncomfortable at times but you set the pace and guide where you want the sessions to go.

Life, as they say is a rollercoaster, full of ups and downs with wild twists and turns when we least expect them. Loss, bereavement, loneliness, trauma from past and present, anxiety, and many other issues affect us all in our daily lives. How we deal with these matters varies, self harm physically and mentally through addictions, poor relationship choices, physically harming the body, self deprication, gambling, amongst many other harmful behaviours are often presenting behaviours. They are all distractions from our true selves, when what we need most is to be heard and listened to, to grow and become the person we want to be.

Are you an autistic, ADHD or AuDHD woman in midlife, finally connecting the dots and feeling overwhelmed by what that means? I offer neuro-affirming psychotherapy online across the UK for women navigating late-identified neurodivergence. Together we make sense of your mind, body, nervous system and patterns, so you can feel less overwhelmed, more grounded, and able to live in a way that feels sustainable and true to who you are.

However, I have also trained in somatic approaches and am IFS informed (I have completed some IFS training specifically for EMDR therapists but have not completed IFS level one training).
You’re successful on paper, but inside you’re exhausted. Many women in leadership find themselves struggling with self doubt, an inner critic that never switches off, or the fear of being found out. Burnout and exhaustion can creep in when you’re expected to excel at work while also holding everything together at home. Past experiences of being overlooked or underestimated may resurface in the workplace, leaving you second guessing your voice or decisions. And the constant balancing act between ambition and wellbeing or resilience and vulnerability can leave you feeling depleted, stretched thin, and alone.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
