You have likely arrived here because yourself or someone you know is thinking about counselling. This can be a worrying and confusing time and you may just need information about what counselling is and how you can make use of it. I chose counselling as a career as there was a time where I felt like I had no voice. I was alone with my thoughts and feelings. Having therapy, allowed me to understand how it feels to be listened to, with no judgement or a fear of being misunderstood. It gave me time, space and the confidence to open up. I want to work with others and communicate how to work on their self-love and belief in themselves.

I’m an Integrative Therapist who believes therapy should be alive, collaborative, and purposeful. My clients don't want 'that sounds difficult' — they want insight, clarity, and real change. They want direction, honesty and no nonsense. They want to feel we get on and they love coming to sessions.Together we explore why you think, feel, and behave as you do, and how to shift it. I work with thoughtful, brave, capable people who are often the ones others rely on, yet privately feel anxious, disconnected, stuck, or unseen. My approach is compassionate, curious, real and honest — helping you move from understanding to transformation.

Are you looking for a therapist who you can trust to be a safe pair of hands? You may be an individual, or a couple, and feel weary and disconnected. You may find that discussions with your partner often end up in the same unhappy cycle each time, pushing you further apart and nothing gets resolved. You may be struggling to recover from an affair, or a feeling of betrayal. I work in a compassionate and supportive way- sometimes with a gentle challenge- untangling together what might be keeping you stuck. We will work towards whatever your goals and needs are. You might be surprised how small changes can really have a huge impact.

I work with clients who may be struggling with the heavy weight of anxiety, the complex emotions of infertility or the hurdles associated with learning disabilities.
Hello and thank you for visiting my page. My name is Fernie. I work with clients who may be struggling with the heavy weight of anxiety, the isolating grief of infertility and baby loss or the quiet exhaustion of navigating life as a person with neurodivergence, or are you a parent/carer helplessly trying to offer support. Perhaps you have spent your life feeling like you are "too much" or "not enough" constantly trying to adjust to fit in. I will provide a safe, non judgmental space where the mask can finally come off, allowing you to explore these thoughts and feelings with a therapist who truly gets it.

I work with young people, adults, and families who struggle with feelings of anxiety, stress, low self esteem and low mood, worthlessness, and self-doubt. Perhaps you are an obsessive overthinker, struggling with OCD, or set excessively high standards/feel exhausted, and or are self-critical. We can work on techniques to relearn a more helpful and constructive view. How you talk to yourself matters. If your voice is unkind, it undermines your self-worth. What is important when dealing with stress or self criticism is to reframe our mindset towards it, but more crucial, to recover from it so that we don’t linger in this state.

Every child experiences and make sense of the world around them in a unique way. If a child is feeling anxious, unhappy or struggling with something, play and creative arts therapy can give them a safe and accepting space to explore their feelings at their own pace. With my support alongside them, children can begin to process their emotions and gradually discover different ways of thinking and being. My aim is always to meet each child where they are — emotionally and developmentally — so that they can feel more empowered, grow in self-awareness and develop a stronger sense of security in themselves and the world around them.

We all long to live well. But have you ever asked yourself what that truly means? You may have tried various self-help methods or even AI tools to improve your life, only to feel as though it’s like pouring a teapot of water over a burning house. You might find yourself caught in tangled thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that seem to repeat again and again. Perhaps you’ve asked, why is this happening, and how do I stop it? Yet nothing seems to work. You are in the right place. I offer a safe, yet honest space where we can look beneath the surface and, with surgical precision, forgive and release everything that no longer serves you

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
