I work with clients on many issues including depression, anxiety, self-worth and anger management and have a special interest in the field of addiction and dependent behaviours and other coping strategies like self-harm, eating disorders and OCD.
I am an integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor and offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to discuss how you are feeling, enabling you to identify and work through those things that are troubling you in your life. The sessions and direction of therapy will be led by you. This can be short-term solution focused work, or more open ended where you can explore your life experiences to see how your past is affecting your present. We can also work on dysfunctional and distorted thought patterns, allowing you to discover new ways of being. Together we can identify the tools you need to flourish.

I understand that seeking therapy can be both comforting and daunting, but it can also be liberating and I commend individuals who reach out for help. Our pain can often be a message that there is something amiss in our lives, and I believe it is important that we listen to that message. Whether you are dealing with a difficult time in your life and need help managing the emotions and thoughts, I aim to assist individuals to better understand the relationship between their feelings and thoughts and explore ways to change maladaptive patterns.

It may be that you have something specific you want to talk about, you may want to calm the negative thoughts that are going around your head or you may be looking to find help for someone you care about. Perhaps when you just want someone who will listen to you, a space to off-load where there is no worry about saying the wrong thing, the fear of being judged or where feeling like you are being an imposition. I am here to help you when you are ready to take the next step.

All of us, at some point in our lives, may experience challenges that could lead to anxiety and depression or ‘stuckness’. These feelings usually stem from not knowing how to communicate needs and emotions or process deeply stressful thoughts and experiences in a way that can bring relief. This is the time to reach out for therapy where you can learn (and unlearn) those behavioural patterns that stop you from becoming the best possible version of yourself. You can develop coping strategies that help you to become a happier and more fulfilled individual now and in the future.

Whether you are an adolescent, adult, sports person or busy executive there are some common themes that resonate with my clients: Finding it hard to make decisions - fear of getting it wrong and constantly worrying/Being less tolerant, irritable over things that wouldn't normally bother you/Needing to do everything perfectly and setting high unrealistic expectations resulting in procrastination/Never feeling you have done enough/A very critical internal voice - Exhausting! Most of my clients want to quieten that negative voice and find ways to achieve and live life without the gnawing anxiety and self-doubt

“We often find that the harder we try to get rid of emotions and thoughts, the stronger they become.” Hi, I’m Lauren. As an experienced counsellor, I believe that people have a core self who is compassionate, curious, calm, creative, clear, courageous, confident and connected. However, through life experiences and challenges these core qualities can be squashed by parts of us whose main role is to help us to survive in the world. This is like the sun that is always constant but is sometimes covered by cloud. Therapy can be the wind that helps to move the cloud to allow the sun to cast its light on our lives.

Hello, I am Aldona. You are here so maybe it means you are thinking about counselling or psychotherapy. Investing in mental health is as important as physical. Anybody can benefit from therapy no matter what age or gender you are. It can be very rewarding because it helps you be the person you want to be. In these times of uncertainty, uneasy economic and political situation; isolation, bereavement and also historic emotional issues could be experienced more frequently and intensively. Difficulties experienced for a prolonged time can lead to somatic problems. “A good life is a process, not a state of being" (Carl Rogers)

Choosing a therapist can be daunting, especially when you may be anxious, at a low ebb & if you’ve had no experience of working with one before. My approach is to provide a warm, safe & confidential space for reflection; allowing you to explore your difficulties without judgement. This is an opportunity for you to explore yourself, what troubles you & how this may have been shaped by your past or current circumstances. Many of the things that keep us stuck are out of our awareness and so the aim will be to find a safe, measured way to explore this. The aim of therapy as Jung says: ‘Is not to fix our problems but to outgrow them'.

I am experienced working with evidence based treatments for anxiety, depression, generalised anxiety, shyness, phobia, health anxiety and OCD.
Hi I'm Matthew, a qualified CBT, integrative and psychodynamic psychotherapist. My style is warm and free of judgement. You may have problems you cannot explain to a friend or family member and need a third perspective. I work with anxiety and depression, relationships, loss, abuse, betrayal, self-esteem, anger, or those who are stuck. Improvement comes from insight, understanding and acceptance but also from stepwise, practical change. If requested I can work in a more active and future focused way with the current advice, exercises and activities supported by the evidence base.

Starting counselling can be a bit scary, but living with unresolved problems is probably much worse. I believe that conditions such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and addictive behaviour signal that something is preventing us from thriving. Recognising something in your life that you want to change is the most crucial step. I offer sessions online and also face-to-face in both Bristol & London.

I help highly driven professionals/entrepreneurs, particularly those in tech/finance/law/media/arts. I often work with those with experience of living life on the edge, and/or complex, troubled relationships. I work well with people for whom talking about personal matters feels very difficult. Those who feel disconnected from their bodies, and themselves. I am not easily shocked and I also understand the need for taking things slowly and sensitively. My approach is kind, practical, down-to-earth and creative.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
