My work draws on many different models including: Person-Centred Therapy - establishing our relationship so that we can get results as quickly and easily as possible Transactional Analysis - analysing the workings of your relationships The Psychodynamic Models - examining your past’s impact on your present
Mindfulness
- an integrative, mind-body approach to stress that supports individuals to change.
I'm here to help you get different results. Whether you're experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, anger or low self-esteem, we can work it out - sometimes within just 4 to 6 sessions. Maybe you've already identified some repeating patterns in your life that lead you where you don't want - or like - to be; maybe you feel like a puppet on strings, knowing unseen forces are pulling you but unable to identify quite what they are and thus break free? I'll work with you on your behavioural patterns, starting with identifying them (either you can explain them to me or we can identify them together) then looking at their sources and identifying ways of breaking free of them.

Hi, my name’s Ed, I’m a Therapist working in Twickenham, West London, and online nationally. I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties from many different backgrounds, everyone’s story and reason for coming to therapy are different but all are equal. I offer both long and short term individual therapy, generally the length of therapy is something that we would discuss in our first session. In the case of longer term therapy we would frequently review as the therapy progresses to consider what work remains and when might it be appropriate to conclude therapy.

I work with couples and individuals. Specialising in relationships, anger, self-esteem issues, addictions and emotional difficulties, I help you have a better relationship with others as well as yourself. I work with you to explore and understand your struggles, repeating patterns and find ways to change them or adapt them to make them helpful. Couples tend to argue in a cyclic nature without ever resolving their arguments. I work with couples to understand this cycle and how to exit it. Individuals can also get stuck in repeating patterns. Examining them, understanding them and working through them brings change.

I can offer you a flexible, comfortable and reassuring experience. I always ensure I work collaboratively with you, and will never force you to dive into your past unless you are comfortable doing so. I also understand you may have been thinking of having counselling for a while before making the first step and that it can be very daunting talking to a stranger. I want to reassure you that making the first step is the hardest part. Once you get past that, my clients have told me they find me approachable, warm and easy to talk to.

We all can get swirled and swished around in an intense and anxious life struggles, forever burdening ourselves in the depth of our restless mind. I hold a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your believes about yourself about events you experienced in life. I am passionate about guiding people towards loving acceptance and self-compassion. Quantum healing happens when your fragmented aspect of you, which were stuck in space and time, breaks free from emotional attachment to the experience and come to wholeness by gaining back freedom, inner power and creative life flow. You become free sovereign being of light.

Whether you are an adolescent, adult, sports person or busy executive there are some common themes that resonate with my clients: Finding it hard to make decisions - fear of getting it wrong and constantly worrying/Being less tolerant, irritable over things that wouldn't normally bother you/Needing to do everything perfectly and setting high unrealistic expectations resulting in procrastination/Never feeling you have done enough/A very critical internal voice - Exhausting! Most of my clients want to quieten that negative voice and find ways to achieve and live life without the gnawing anxiety and self-doubt

Whilst I specialise in CBT for eating disorders, my experience also allows me to work with other difficulties and to integrate other approaches as and when necessary including schema therapy, compassion focussed therapy, and
mindfulness
.
I have worked with people with eating disorders for over 16 years - in research, the NHS, and the private sector. During that time I have developed a real passion for helping people who are facing these difficulties. I have seen the impact eating disorders have, but I have also seen how effective treatment can be, and how significantly life can change for the better. This led me to develop Surrey Eating Disorder Recovery - where I offer specialist evidence-based therapy for adults with all forms of eating disorders or eating difficulties - from emotional eating to bulimia, anorexia or ARFID.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
