I aim to help ease emotional pain and confusion and to find better ways of living a more fulfilled and happier life. Sharing your problems, particularly if it's for the very first time can feel quite daunting. Therefore, it is important for me to create a comfortable and safe environment so we can get straight to heart of the process. I also work deeply linking past experiences to present difficulties and may at times focus our relationship in the moment. This powerful way of working brings insight, which helps you find solutions and ways forward that is best suited to you and your life.

Experiencing difficulties understanding mindset and mental state? Feeling a lack of energy and focus to manage everyday challenges, unsure where to begin? Experiencing loneliness even among friends and needing someone to listen and help you regain control of your life? Most of us will encounter difficulties at some point, which can easily lead to serious mental health issues. Counselling will help you understand how maladaptive patterns are increasingly causing discomfort or even despair. Most importantly, therapy will provide you with the understanding, support and containment to work through these challenges.

I understand that seeking therapy can be both comforting and daunting, but it can also be liberating and I commend individuals who reach out for help. Our pain can often be a message that there is something amiss in our lives, and I believe it is important that we listen to that message. Whether you are dealing with a difficult time in your life and need help managing the emotions and thoughts, I aim to assist individuals to better understand the relationship between their feelings and thoughts and explore ways to change maladaptive patterns.

I work with families, couples and individuals. Specialising in relationships, anger, self-esteem issues, addictions and emotional difficulties, I help you have a better relationship with others as well as yourself. I work with you to explore and understand your struggles, repeating patterns and find ways to change them or adapt them to make them helpful. Couples tend to argue in a cyclic nature without ever resolving their arguments. I work with couples to understand this cycle and how to exit it. Individuals can also get stuck in repeating patterns. Examining them, understanding them and working through them brings change.

If you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, trauma, or emotional struggles, you're not alone. You may feel trapped in negative thought patterns, burdened by painful memories, or unsure of your self-worth. An example in nature is the lovely lotus, which grows from a bed of mud and muddy water, yet blooms in purity and beauty. Like the lotus and the pearl, you too can transform from difficult circumstances into something beautiful. Just as an oyster turns a piece of dirt into a pearl, you have the power to grow, heal, and reclaim your inner strength, ultimately reconnecting with your authentic self.

Whether you are an adolescent, adult, sports person or busy executive there are some common themes that resonate with my clients: Finding it hard to make decisions - fear of getting it wrong and constantly worrying/Being less tolerant, irritable over things that wouldn't normally bother you/Needing to do everything perfectly and setting high unrealistic expectations resulting in procrastination/Never feeling you have done enough/A very critical internal voice - Exhausting! Most of my clients want to quieten that negative voice and find ways to achieve and live life without the gnawing anxiety and self-doubt

Hello, I am Aldona. You are here so maybe it means you are thinking about counselling or psychotherapy. Investing in mental health is as important as physical. Anybody can benefit from therapy no matter what age or gender you are. It can be very rewarding because it helps you be the person you want to be. In these times of uncertainty, uneasy economic and political situation; isolation, bereavement and also historic emotional issues could be experienced more frequently and intensively. Difficulties experienced for a prolonged time can lead to somatic problems. “A good life is a process, not a state of being" (Carl Rogers)

I have extensive training including a Master's in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. My own experiences relating to family dynamics, a career in the mental health sector, motherhood, relationships and loss are reflected and undoubtedly beneficial in the way I work. Professionally, I have a breadth of counselling experience working with adolescents and adults who have sought therapy while grappling with a range of challenges impacting their lives including those grappling with fame and fortune. I have also worked extensively with family carers who can, for example, feel isolated, depressed, stressed, anxious, resentful or angry.

I'm here to help you get different results. Whether you're experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, anger or low self-esteem, we can work it out - sometimes within just 4 to 6 sessions. Maybe you've already identified some repeating patterns in your life that lead you where you don't want - or like - to be; maybe you feel like a puppet on strings, knowing unseen forces are pulling you but unable to identify quite what they are and thus break free? I'll work with you on your behavioural patterns, starting with identifying them (either you can explain them to me or we can identify them together) then looking at their sources and identifying ways of breaking free of them.

I specialise in working with thoughtful, capable people who have spent much of their lives holding everything together for everyone else. From the outside they often appear successful, resilient, and in control, yet privately they struggle with anxiety, relationship difficulties, emotional exhaustion, addiction, or the lasting impact of childhood trauma. Many have tried therapy before or understand their difficulties intellectually but still find themselves repeating the same patterns. Together we explore the deeper architecture of your life so those patterns begin to make sense and lasting change becomes possible.

We all have experiences that can be difficult to carry on our own. Sometimes we need space to untangle our thoughts, understand our feelings, or simply be heard without pressure to have everything figured out. Therapy offers a place to do exactly that. Alongside my general counselling practice, I have specialist training in fertility counselling and am registered with both BACP and BICA. I have particular experience supporting people through fertility challenges, assisted conception, pregnancy and parenthood, relationship difficulties, loss, and the many transitions that life can bring.

My name is Maiia, and I'm a psychotherapist offering private therapy sessions online, over the phone or in person (you choose!). Life can be challenging. Sometimes it feels unfair, unjust even. You might feel lonely, misunderstood or judged. I want you to know that reaching out takes real courage, and you've already taken the first step by being here. I won't promise you a magic pill that takes away your worries overnight. But here's what I can promise: I'll do my best to understand what it's like to be you. I'll stand by you. I'll be your best ally as we work through whatever you're facing right now.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
